Corporate Law: The regulations that apply to the formation, management, and dissolution of corporations. This includes issues related to corporate governance, shareholders' rights, mergers, acquisitions, and corporate finance. Employment Law: The rules that govern the relationship between employers and employees, including hiring, working conditions, discrimination, wrongful termination, and workplace safety. Intellectual Property: Laws protecting creations of the mind, such as inventions, literary and artistic works, symbols, names, and images used in commerce. This includes patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Commercial Transactions: Legal principles related to the sale and distribution of goods and services, including the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), which standardizes commercial transactions across the U.S. Tax Law: Regulations concerning the taxation of businesses, including income tax, payroll tax, and sales tax. Antitrust Law : Laws aimed at promoting competition and preventing monopolies or unfair business practices that could harm consumers or other businesses. Bankruptcy Law : Regulations concerning the financial insolvency of businesses, including the processes for restructuring or liquidating assets to pay off creditors. Real Estate Law : Rules governing the use and ownership of land and property, including leases, sales, zoning, and development. Environmental Law : Regulations aimed at protecting the environment, which can affect businesses in terms of compliance with pollution controls, waste management, and sustainability practices. 🐂 Paul Weiss are RELENTLESS 🐂 (1 min read) Paul Weiss has launched a second raid on Kirkland, poaching at least three more partners from its rival’s London office less than a month after it enticed away several private equity finance lawyers. At the same time, PW have also poached an M&A partner from Linklaters, as part of an escalating war for top lawyers between the industry’s biggest names. The new Paul Weiss hires on the M&A side include Linklaters deal specialist Will Aitken-Davies, who has worked for clients including TDR Capital, and former Kirkland lawyer Roger Johnson whose major client is EQT. Three other Kirkland lawyers are also joining the firm as partners — tax specialists Timothy Lowe and Cian O’Connor, and M&A deal maker Andreas Philipson. Another Kirkland lawyer focused on tax is also in discussions about moving. In less than a month, Paul Weiss is set to boost headcount in its London office by more than a third to over 40 lawyers and will have a team providing legal advice on M&A, debt finance, capital markets, plus tax and litigation for private equity firms and their top executives - in other words, PW has become an overnight full service law firm to some of the most sought after and elite clients in the world.
