If someone had asked me to become a champion for lymphedema awareness, education, and prevention, I would have declined. But when this disease took hold of my right arm, hand, and fingers after my battle with breast cancer, leaving me unable to continue my clinical practice as a medical doctor, I realized the dire need to help others suffering from cancer-related lymphedema. The impact suggests a backwards step in funding that supports leadership , education and values based cancer research led by the alliance . We discussed the ongoing concerns in areas where we see poorer outcomes, particularly in regional Victoria where the Alliance plays a pivotal role. Cancer research, like studies into early detection , risk stratification , AI , new & emerging treatments and tests are evolving so fast, that we can’t afford to fall behind when we see cancer incidence continue to be one of the highest burden of disease.
