An interesting article in The Times today on the PE space. Probably a slightly alarmist headline but at tml Partners and our sister business Growth Partners - The CMO Consultancy, we’ve seen a significant shift in mindset from PE clients and portfolio operations - a much greater focus on investing in robust growth marketing strategies to underpin shareholder value creation rather than leaning on gearing strategies. Companies and shareholders with the best customer strategies and strongest marketing leadership will be the biggest value creation winners in the next decade.
Thanks for sharing Simon Bassett I’d echo that from a People/CPO perspective. The smart PE firms have realised that value creation is generated via strong leadership in all the functions and should be part of the pitch to perspective buyers.
Simon Bassett that is encouraging to hear. Though I don't believe everyone is seeing the same shift as you at TML Partners. Keen to get back into the PE world but the handful I'm speaking to aren't as positive about their portfolio of clients.
This is a hugely important move to create drains-up sustainable scale-up growth and value Simon 👏🏻

2mo100% agreed Simon All the work that I see going on (in the best firms) is focused on building strong, well-founded, proven value creation (P2V) methodologies that deliver. That's the point; deliver. It's also shifting from "marketing" to GTM, which better combines Sales, Product, Pricing and Marketing in a *very* targeted way, to win the customers that you need to deliver the EV outcome, and not random/"spray & pray" nonsense. If this doesn't properly align these core areas, nothing will - and anyone that can't align in this way, isn't part of the future.
