In the early 2000’s U.S. transmission pipeline operators were required to begin integrity assessments. During the initial phases of assessment coating failures were documented as a main cause for pipeline anomalies. Polyguard Products was one of the first coating companies to draw a line between failed cathodic shielding coatings and the resulting corrosion on the substrate. Polyguard’s RD-6 coating was developed in 1988 with a woven mesh-backing to prevent cathodic shielding in the event of damage to the product.
