Dear Geo-friends! We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new collection, "Early-Earth's Oxygenation." It's now open for submissions! If you're doing research on the causes and consequences of the oxygenation events that led Earth to fill its atmosphere and oceans to reach oxygen values closer to their actual level, we want to see your amazing research in this collection! If you are interested in taking a look at the articles that are part of this collection check it on the link below. I guarantee you will learn a lot! https://lnkd.in/g_ZQYAj6 "The Great Oxidation Event (GOE) at ~2.4–2.3 Ga and the Neoproterozoic Oxidation Event (NOE) at ~0.8–0.54 Ga, were transformative events that catalyzed the development of global geological, geochemical, and biological processes, paving the way for the diversification of life. Advancements in biogeochemistry, geochemistry, and mineralogy studying the Precambrian record have revealed that these, along with other weaker oxygenation pulses, affected differently the course of Earth's reducing and oxidizing (redox) processes, based on the amount of available oxygen and its effects on Earth’s biogeochemical processes. Understanding the specifics of these events provides valuable insights into the processes that brought Earth’s redox conditions closer to their contemporary state and their impact in shaping life's diversification. This cross-journal Collection presents articles that enhance our understanding of the two primary oxygenation events that occurred on the Early Earth, as well as the weaker events that preceded and followed them. The articles in this Collection show the connection between the oxygenation events and the changes happening in the solid Earth, its atmosphere, oceans, and all biogeochemical cycles within these systems. We welcome submissions from diverse disciplines, such as biogeochemistry, geochemistry, petrology, and mineralogy."

An understanding of the geochemistry of #connatefluids is important if the diagenesis of the rock is to be quantified. The solutes in the connate fluids often precipitate and reduce the porosity and permeability of the host rock, which can have important implications for its hydrocarbon prospectivity. #samudramanthan

In case you're interested about isotope ratio analysis and high-resolution Lcms systems, this is an on-demand workshop/ webinar that I would recommend! This is coming from me from a personal, "I'm-being-a-nerd" level that just loves the sciences and not any marketing promotion 😂. There's been a recent technological shift where Orbitraps, typically used as a high-end detector for LCMS systems in life science, have gone into the field of isotope ratio analysis. These have been historically done by magnetic sector instruments (specifically gas IRMS) due to their extremely high precision, but the Orbitrap platform allows for new and more straightforward workflows to be done in this field. I have not seen it yet and will just be going through it myself, but pretty much anything Niel Williams shares on this platform is quite good 👍.
Want to learn more about Fourier-Transform Mass Spectrometry and its use to determine isotope ratios? We are honoured to have John M. Eiler, Sharp Professor of geology and geochemistry at California Institute of Technology, present a 5-part workshop about isotope ratio analysis by Thermo Scientific Orbitrap mass spectrometry. Follow the link below to sign up to the these great introductary presentations providing insights into to the capability of the technology: https://lnkd.in/eewx6zKW #orbitrap #thermo #Isotope
