Working in strategic innovation within a large business is demanding; in government, it's nearly impossible. A key challenge is fostering a "sense of urgency" when threats are unseen, like trying to communicate urgency when the surface of the sea is calm, hiding the turmoil beneath. The potential for unwittingly damaging ecosystems and habitats pose a great challenge, urging us not only to innovate for the long term but also to act now. Norway's prosperity, driven largely by industries like fishing, oil, and aquaculture, has created a comfortable lifestyle. Yet, despite this success, we face challenges. Our reliance on coastal and sea-based industries, which constitute 70% of exports, is significant. However, our ability to manage these industries sustainably is lacking. We lack the knowledge to identify environmentally sound industrial areas and to protect coastal ecosystems as required by international agreements. Norwegian Mapping Authority, The Geological Survey of Norway and Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway have submitted a project to the government 3 times (!) that we call Marine base map in the coastal zone and which will be the knowledge base we need to be able to manage our coast in a safe, sensible and responsible way. So far, we have not received funds and therefore we were very happy when Sosialistisk Venstreparti took responsibility on 30 May last year. Storting representatives Birgit Oline, Ingrid Fiskaa and Grete Wold managed to get all the political parties behind a Storting resolution: "All the political parties in the Storting stand behind the proposal to ask the Government to speed up the work to create marine base maps for all Norwegian fjords and coastal areas within the baseline". In the state budget for 2024, we were dismissed with: "In connection with the revised national budget for 2023, NOK 3 million was set aside to build a technical infrastructure for marine base maps in Sør-Varanger. The ministry means by this that the decision has been followed up .". This can only indicate a lack of commitment to this crucial initiative. Without adequate knowledge and planning, our coastal environment, and consequently our economy, are at risk. Norway has been fortunate, with abundant natural resources and wise leadership. However, our complacency is challenged by environmental concerns, inadequate policies, and a one-sided focus on land. Failure to address these challenges threatens our prosperity and our status as a model nation. We must act decisively to safeguard our future. If we don't establish marine basemaps in the coastal zone soon, then the income from our most profitable sector will eventually fail and present a dramatic challenge for the country. As a nation we are nowhere near prepared. We can't MAINTAIN what we know NOTHING about.... We can't sustainably USE what we know NOTHING about.... We can't PROTECT what we know NOTHING about. #marinegrunnkart #marinebasemaps #walkthetalk

Thrilled to share a pivotal moment for the transportation sector: The European Parliament's vote for approval of the Revision of the Weights and Dimensions Directive 🚛. This legislation is a leap towards sustainability, allowing for the increased use of zero-emission trucks by adjusting weight restrictions and fostering the cross-border movement of high-capacity vehicles.
Big Move for Sustainability 🚛 - The European Parliament's recent vote for the Revision of the Weights and Dimensions Directive marks a monumental shift towards eco-friendly freight transport. This initiative aims to elevate the use of zero-emission trucks by relaxing weight limits and encouraging cross-border operations of high-capacity vehicles. Erik Østergaard, CEO of Danish Transport and Logistics (DTL) and chairman of the Nordic Logistics Association board, hails it as a 'significant step forward' for efficiency and road safety. Meanwhile, Claus Frost Wrang, Business Unit Director of GSGroup, sees it as a 'game-changer,' aligning perfectly with our drive for innovation and sustainable transport solutions. Together, we're steering towards a greener future! 🌍💡 🇳🇴 https://lnkd.in/d8HaZSuN 🇸🇪 https://lnkd.in/dwUUMwiv 🇩🇰 https://lnkd.in/dGWpSdGQ 🇫🇮 https://lnkd.in/dvdB-U6e #Sustainability #TransportInnovation #EuropeanParliament #Onegsgroup

When our common challenges and fixed assignment to solve our climate changes, needs to be addressed, not only on the internal lines, but also with our surroundings. Therefor it´s important that both private and municipal companies, needs to address the challenges together - no one can do it on their own. We need to do it as a team and even the smallest changes counts! 🙏💚🍀 I see the Odense Climate partnership (Odense Klimapartnerskab) as a serious contribution to be a part of solving our challenges with the climate changes and transition to a greener future. An important thing is, that words alone doesn´t solve the challenge by itself, we shall take some seriously and concrete steps/measures to make the difference we want to make. Therefor I see the opportunity to be part of the board of directors and team ECE Danmark’ s participation in the different networks within Odense Climate Partnership, to push on with further concrete, serious and strategic opportunities/input, so we can accelerate our common contribution to the climate challenges we already face.

I have a special bond with Hamburg; a city that mixes elegance, business and a bit of decadence in a fantastic way. The port itself is like a second city on water, and to learn of the steps that have been taken to make it more sustainable is encouraging, if not only because it shows that where there is a will there is a way; but, than again, this seems to be a German trade... #portsandlogistics #coldironing #shippingindustry #electrification #emissionreduction
