The Sierra Institute for Community and Environment seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Watershed Restoration Project Manager with responsibilities for a growing suite of watershed restoration projects. The Sierra Institute’s watershed restoration work emphasizes the collaborative development of meadow and stream restoration and forest road infrastructure improvements that improve ecological function and protect critical aquatic resources. The current project portfolio is centered on a million-acre focal landscape for the South Lassen Watersheds Group, a collaborative addressing forest and watershed management, climate resilience, and economic development in critical upper watersheds of Battle Creek, Mill Creek, Deer Creek, and the upper North Fork of the Feather River. This is a tremendous opportunity for a talented natural resource professional who is excited to join a collaborative organization expanding capacity for restoration across the Northern Sierra and Southern Cascades. The selected individual will work closely with Sierra Institute staff, non-governmental partners, and federal land management agencies to advance watershed restoration as part of multiple large landscape restoration projects to improve forest resilience across the only anadromous watersheds on public lands in the Sierra Nevada, as well as support post-fire restoration in the Dixie Fire footprint.

Have you heard about our High Road Training Partnership in Tribal Forest Restoration and Stewardship (HRTP)? We’re making strides in collaboration with over 19 Tribes across California to empower and employ tribal individuals in forest restoration. HRTP is not just a program; it’s a commitment to California tribes to help create job opportunities and build tribal capacity in ways that truly benefit their communities. The focus is on on-the-land training, allowing us to help strengthen crew capacity and empower tribes to be employers and crew leaders in their own right. Recently, we had the honor of coordinating an Advanced Ropes & Rigging training with the Konkow Maidu Tribe, taking place on their recently reclaimed land. This training provided a great opportunity for participants to build on their existing skill sets and advance their careers in the workforce. The on-the-job experience is the heart of these initiatives, and we’re excited to see more of these trainings coming to fruition across California. Thank you to the California Workforce Development Board for supporting HRTP and to @calfire Forest Health and Workforce Development program for making this specific training at Konkow possible! Also thanks to @sailforestry and their amazing instructors for leading this safe and in depth training opportunity! Together, we’re cultivating a future where communities thrive, and nature flourishes.

The Sierra Institute for Community and Environment in cooperation with the Lassen Volcanic National Park is hiring a Wilderness Fuels Module Crew to perform fuels management in Lassen Volcanic National Park to promote future prescribed fire activities in wilderness areas of the park. This work will also directly contribute to increasing fire resiliency of critical habitat for Northern Goshawk and California Spotted Owl. The Wilderness Fuels Module Crew, under the direction of the Crew Leaders, Sierra Institute support staff, and Lassen Volcanic National Park specialists, will be responsible for working as a team in safely falling, bucking, and limbing live and dead trees and constructing fireline using predominantly non-mechanized equipment (e.g., crosscut saws, axes, etc.) in undeveloped wilderness areas and some non-wilderness areas. Read about the variety of positions we're offering within our Wilderness Fuels Module and more on how to apply at https://lnkd.in/ggMZu4VC

Take a look at our latest Dixie Fire reconstruction work! Last week our panels were delivered and installed for the construction of the Roundhouse Council's Indian Education and Cultural Center in Greenville, CA. We think it's safe to say that this is the first roundhouse constructed with #CrossLaminatedTimber and we couldn't be more excited to partner in this project. Huge thank you to Susan Jones and the atelierjones llc team for their brilliant design, Vaagen Timbers for their execution, and Ed and Lights Creek Construction for implementation. Thank you also to Mary, Danny and the Roundhouse Council Board for the privilege of working on this.
