LOOKOUT for Hurricane Lee!! What in the world is a Hurricane Box? A hurricane box is an approximately 16,000 sq. mile box extending over Florida and the adjacent states and well into the Atlantic Ocean. If a named Tropical Storm or Hurricane enters this box, the insurance companies will suspend binding coverage. The boxes are located such that hurricanes have plenty of space to intensify after passing through them, and the prevailing winds tend to push them towards Florida. Why is this important? When a storm enters the box, companies suspend binding authority - this means we cannot bind new coverage or even modify existing coverage. What to do: If you are purchasing a new property, need to make changes to your policy or have a payment coming due - be sure to get a binder ASAP to make sure you are protected.

We are praying for everyone in Hurricane Idalia's path. Ways to stay safe after a hurricane: 1) Avoid damaged or fallen power lines, poles and downed wires 2) Stay out of flood waters 3) If power is out and you have to use generator make sure you turn off your main breaker so you aren't backfeeding power down the lines, and use flashlights if possible so you don't risk starting any fires with candles. Bring in your solar powered yard lights at night if you have them for light. 4) Never use gasoline, propane, natural gas or charcoal burning devices inside your home, basement or garage 5) Have a clean source of water & eat safe food 6) Stay out of damaged buildings 7) Have a first-aid kit on hand 7) Do not mix chemicals when cleaning & use gloves and eye protection
As Hurricane Idalia approaches the Florida coast, we pray for everyone's safety. The picture below is from down the road from my home in Pine Island with Hurricane Ian. After living in Florida all of my life and experiencing many hurricanes, the flood waters and damage they caused were the most terrifying thing I had ever been through. Remember in floods/storm surge, water always wins. As our line crews and safety personnel return to work to restore any damages caused by the hurricane we ask you to pray for their safety and to be patient with them as they leave their loved ones back home to restore your power and make your loved ones comfortable.
