I believe that to succeed in the evolving beverage landscape, we need to connect with Gen Z on a deeper level. Their values and habits are reshaping the market. Focusing on what matters most to them will lead to success: authenticity, purpose, and inclusivity in our brands. The latest NielsenIQ report showed some interesting data. Here were some of my takeaways: 🔹 Millions of Gen Z's will hit legal drinking age over the next decade. Planning for these future consumers is crucial. 🔹 Gen Z values brands with clear missions and integrity. They prefer flavor-forward, better-for-you products like low alcohol, no alcohol, and hard kombucha. Hard seltzers are particularly popular, with 34% of Gen Z leaning towards them when purchasing alcohol. 🔹 Gen Z wants their brands to have a strong social purpose and support inclusivity. Interesting to see how different industries are evolving and adapting for younger demographics. The beverage industry is certainly one that is seeing changes due to Gen Z’s drinking habits. Thoughts?

I think a lot about what's going on in the world of commercial food service and where we are headed. What is changing with the influence of the next generation? This trend report takes a deep dive into everything from what's popular now, to trends on the rise and drills down into each generation's preferences. Did you know that Millennials have a higher preference toward unique individual spices while Gen Z prefers complex spice blends? Or that Gen X was the first generation to show a greater affinity for international flavors? What is your target market?

The O'doul's Generation. I spoke yesterday at an investment conference, and I used this term to describe the group of consumers whose last experience with NA options was a dusty bottle of O'Doul's. Definitely not a great category champion. This generation is still exploring NA, though. On-premise they're choosing NA options at 1 in 8. When you look at Millennials, that jumps to 1 in 4. This entire category wanted to build on-premise. So many amazing liquids were in development just before COVID. Fast forward, COVID sweeps across the world, equity is cheap, valuations are high, and lots of brands switch to DTC approach. Revenue growth above all else. Difficult to build loyalty in an emerging category with so many options and so many consumers trying for the first time. The next phase of growth for the NA category will be meeting the occasion on-premise. It's why we're using our data and analytics platform to help restaurants and bars make smart choices. Why we're partnering with KeHE Distributors and LibDib, LLC to make those choices available in more places. I believe they're better positioned to help us grow the category together because they're not pulling against some of detractors from the alc bev world. Like what I'm seeing this month with wine producers deciding to take the approach of demeaning consumers who are participating in a dry (or damp) month. That often extends to distributor reps (many of whom were the ones telling bars and restaurants to just choose the O'Doul's in the first place). They'll catch up. I'm looking forward to that day. Because if NA becomes 4% of alcohol sales by 2027 (that's the number now, but it's been wrong on the low side every year they've made this prediction), there's truly plenty of room for all of us.
