Thinking about a start-up. Think again (and again) Plenty of people dream of a career in a start-up. Its seen as the road to fame and riches; never mind the reality of sleepless nights, losing the house, and potential bankruptcy that awaits about 90% of founders. Figures for 2023 show that the US has more start-ups than VCs can support. Over 2,000 VC firms halted new investments in start-ups during the first nine months of 2023, while approximately 3,200 start-ups failed in the same year.  @CogX reports the data on capital availability, seed deals, and exits all point to an oversaturated market. Something I always liked about Headline: keeping a steady hand regardless of market cycles. In 2023, we evaluated 89,102 companies, engaged with 14,485 founders, and saw $6.5B in total exit value. What goes behind the scenes? Nothing compounds value like respectful conversations and genuine connections, but over the past decade, our team of 20 engineers, data scientists, and product managers has built proprietary technology platforms that work alongside our very human sourcing and due diligence processes. They complement, not replace. Searchlight, our automated sourcing tool, keeps us on our toes to make sure we have no excuses for not having seen a fast-growing company. Deepdive, born as a due-diligence tool and now free to use, helps aggregate the data that matters when fundraising and shows if product-market-fit has been reached.
