Dr. Kozin, chief of staff, was recently selected to give the 2nd Preston Phillips Memorial Lecture at Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, during a program for the residents before graduation. Dr. Kozin's presentation followed the theme of service to the greater global community. The lecture honored Preston Phillips's life and dedication to service. On June 1, 2022, Preston Phillips was one of four people killed by an angry patient in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Phillips was a resident in 1996 at Yale. Every other week, we hope to share a brief interview with a staff member who helps our hospital provide the most amazing care for our patients. Say hello to Branden, a registered nurse in the PICU How long have you worked at the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital? It has been 5 years. What is your favorite part of your job/day? I love to see the progress made by patients after their spine surgeries. I am there on day 1 post-surgery, helping them get out of bed for the first time. Then, a few days later, seeing those same patients walking around as if they never had surgery is amazing and very rewarding. How would you spend your perfect day off? It would be spent hanging out at home with my wife and our two kids or going on a family outing to the park or playground. Tell us something that may surprise us about you.
