An abundance mindset is the surest sign of true inner confidence.

One turning point in my career was soon after joining Google in 2008 when I realized that while I was good enough to be hired by Google in 2008, that 2008 me was definitely not good enough to be hired by Google in 2004, which then pushed me to work hard on improving my PM skills.

In some situations you will move faster and your product will be more successful if you *over* promise and *under* deliver. Yes, you read that right. Over promise and under deliver, *not* under promise and over deliver as everyone says. A logical analysis of when & why this is the case:

Consider this statement: “Steve Jobs was absolutely great at execution” If someone’s response to this statement is “maybe” or “no” or “absolutely not”, and their rationale is that “Steve Jobs was great at vision, strategy, design, taste and he hired people who were great at execution” that means they don’t truly understand what great execution is, nor do they truly understand what great strategy is.

High agency has many great upsides, although a significant downside is that it is also highly correlated with high anxiety.

Performance evaluations are not films, they are photographs. In practice, they tend to snapshot very recent perceptions more than continuous impact. Higher ratings are often a result of specific high moments we can recollect right now and issues that currently are top of mind for upper management. This is not how it *should be*, but unfortunately that wish of ours doesn’t change how it usually is.
