Being comfortable with the unknowns and uncertainty teaches a lot about where to go next with the product in the market. As an Engineer, I often used to pick the most defined task first from the backlog. I used to leave unknowns for another day. As a PM, I force myself to pick the items with highest unknowns first and try to make sense of it. #productmanagement

A product goal is a measurable, time-bound objective that supports a product's vision. It defines what a product team wants to accomplish and how it will evaluate its success. 💢 The Product Goal Canvas is a useful template to define a Product Goal and create alignment with the team or with the stakeholders. I have created the Product Goal Canvas to help Product Managers and Product Owners define their Product Goals. A good Product Goals is specific and time-bound. You may want to define it as the objective your product will achieve in the next 3 to 6 months. When you can make it specific, it becomes actionable: it will inform what is and what is not important in your backlog, define the priorities, and clean up a bunch of stuff that is not needed. Once you achieve a Product Goal, define the next one, and so on. Let's talk about PMCs (product management councils or committees). Do you need one? According to this product manager, NO, despite what any agile framework tells you. If you WANT one, it should be a small group of trusted advisors who give useful input and feedback. PMCs are meant to guide and help, not be a roadblock. What should a PMC NOT be? Here are some red flags to watch out for: 🚩 Decision by consensus 🚩 The committee needs to 'sign off' on roadmap changes or new features 🚩 It's become a status update meeting 🚩 The PM is the only one talking 🚩 Your PMC members are the Spanish inquisition 🚩 You're having to sell your own PMC on the value of your product Your PMC should be a helpful resource, not a hindrance. if it's become more trouble than it's worth, it may be time to rethink the members or renegotiate your relationship with them. https://lnkd.in/eCeuvU5x

When you first get into product management, it seems like you have to learn a million different things. You don’t. What you need is to identify the core principles. There are just a few of them that govern the field. Once you know these, the million things you thought you had to learn are just variations of the core principles. That is true for any field, btw.
