We at Standard Chartered India had an exciting 2 days of Country Management Team Workshop at the back of the recent Board visit to Mumbai. The workshop focused on aligning and working together to plan the execution of the recently endorsed India strategy. One of my key takeaways has been, how we all can come together as One Team and learn from each other through authentic and transparent conversations. Our clients and people have been at the core of our discussion. We also reflected on our team’s wellbeing as we set to deliver on our ambitious agenda. Appreciate the inputs from Sunil Kaushal Tanuj Kapilashrami Diego De Giorgi Sadia R. Steven (Steve) Cranwell for their constructive challenge to shape our thinking. Thrilled to share a glimpse into the recent transformative Global Learning Week which was conducted in June. This year was special as the event was extended to deliver three further weeks dedicated to reskilling and upskilling initiatives. This year we delved deep into pivotal themes designed to fuel both professional growth of our colleagues and business growth for the bank. Through a focused exploration of exciting themes like AI, Skills Based Organization, and Sustainability, we unveiled insights that are not only crucial for our industry but also essential for navigating the complexities of today’s dynamic world. With an aim to ignite a passion for continuous learning and development, fostering a culture of innovation & excellence, our People Capability team in India, worked tirelessly to execute the initiatives around My Team and My Career wherein colleagues were engaged in learning interventions, blended workshops and discussions to equip them with practical tools and experiences. We also had an opportunity to have our Chief Strategy and Talent Officer, Tanuj Kapilashrami get a sight of some of these initiatives during her visit to India. As I reflect on the success of this initiative, we at Standard Chartered recognize the vital role these themes play in shaping the future of banking. By embracing AI, fostering skills based organization, and championing sustainability, we at Standard Chartered India are not only adapting to change but leading the change towards creating a more innovative, inclusive, and sustainable banking ecosystem. I am proud to highlight the outstanding work accomplished by our Standard Chartered India D&I (Diversity and Inclusion) Council over the past few years, focusing on six pillars - SCEnable (PWD), Gender, Generations, SC Pride, Nationality & ethnicity and Wellbeing. Recently we had the honors and privilege to host the Board and the Management Team in India, during which the D&I Council showcased “Lived Experiences” and stories of colleagues from various parts of the Bank, on how the D&I Council initiatives have supported them in their professional and personal journeys. The real-life anecdotes and stories of the Lived Experiences were extremely heartwarming and touching. The session saw active participation between the participants and the Board members, making it engaging and insightful. Thanks to the Board and Management Team for their encouragement and the time spent with the team. I am proud to share that Standard Chartered India has been awarded #DEIAward for Best Program by the Bombay Chambers of Commerce and Industry at their 2024 edition of the DEI Awards ceremony, held on 12th June at Mumbai, India. This award recognizes the Bank’s transformative initiatives and policies celebrating our unwavering commitment to fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and reflects the collective effort and dedication of our team. This recognition holds a special place, as it reaffirms our belief in the power of diversity and inclusion to transform workplaces and lives. Our initiatives such as trainings focused on Neurodiversity, program for returning mothers, Menopause support, Inclusive Leadership trainings, and inclusive benefits such as parental leaves, Medical benefits for same sex partners, etc. have made a significant impact, and we are honored to see our efforts acknowledged. I am incredibly proud to share that we at Standard Chartered India, are taking significant strides in embracing diversity and inclusion. Fostering an inclusive environment is not just a goal, but a responsibility we hold dearly. Few years back we had introduced accessible banking services in sign language via video banking for our hearing -impaired customers. This initiative aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, has access to our services in the most seamless manner. To strengthen our support for our colleagues, I am happy to share that we have launched Reasonable Work Accommodation guidelines to provide special benefits for colleagues with disabilities. One such benefit under this umbrella is financial support to purchase or replace their personal assistive devices. This is a small yet impactful step towards empowering our colleagues to thrive. We are forever committed to creating an inclusive space for our colleagues through awareness session and sensitization programs to create a culture where everyone feels valued and included. Approximately 75% of menopausal women experience symptoms, while around 25% experience serious symptoms, often adversely affecting their personal and working lives. In some instances, the severity of menopausal symptoms can result in women choosing to leave their jobs. Aligned to the research findings, within the bank, over a quarter of menopausal women surveyed said that, due to actively experiencing menopause, they are less likely to apply for a promotion or take on extra responsibilities. Menopausal women are a fast-growing demographic in the workplace, yet they're often faced with a lack of awareness of the issues they're grappling with and are not supported by employers and colleagues. At Standard Chartered Bank, we are proud to share our menopause support program as a key component of our employee wellbeing initiative. At Standard Chartered Bank, we are dedicated to fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes the physical, mental, and emotional health of all our employees, and we believe that supporting women during their menopausal transition is an essential part of that commitment. Menopause is not just a women’s issue. At the bank, we aim to improve the day-to-day experience of our employees so we can bring our best selves to work. Whether we experience it firsthand or not, the menopause transition affects everyone. We are changing the narrative by openly discussing menopause, raising awareness of its signs and symptoms, and providing the necessary support and resources. Some of our initiatives include: 1. Offering Menopause Counselling Support through our Employee Assistance Program 2. Hosting Educational Webinars 3. Amplifying voices of our colleagues through awareness campaigns 4. Providing a dedicated Menopause inclusion and Well-being Conversation Guide 5.
