As we approach the six month mark in 2024, one trend that sticks out to me is the rapid growth of service brands. In Q1 alone, Authority Brands smashed expectations by adding 58 new locations across their network of brands. While these service brands are hot, I still feel as if they have yet to 'boom'. That is not to say they won't get there, I know they will, very soon. As the cost of labor continues to soar, service based franchises are in a unique position as they have relatively cheap start-up and labor costs. This model is extremely attractive to franchisees, especially in today's economy where real estate is a nightmare, and attracting and retaining top talent is easier said than done. As you prepare for this boom, its extremely important that you have the key foundations for your franchise set in place before you scale and rapidly sell territories. One being the standard chart of accounts and the second being a reliable and accurate Item 19. Have you ever heard of the Rule of 3? It's a pricing trick we use in our franchise business, we provide three choices - basic, medium, and premium. The 'basic' option is cheaper and has fewer extras, but it's there to attract you to our store. But here's the interesting part - most people don't stick with the basic choice. Instead, they're tempted by the middle or high-end options because of how we present the choices. When people have options, they're more likely to look around and pick something that suits them financially. This tactic helps us make more sales, attract more customers, and keep our franchise doing well. As you research business ownership with a franchise, start with 3 questions: - What are your strengths? - What do you enjoy doing? - What franchise system helps you leverage both of those? If you cannot answer those 3 questions, you may be ruling out an opportunity that aligns perfectly for you. Maybe even because the "name" doesn't make sense. Or the market seems "saturated".
