Bag tossing drama and still the team's best showing at the NCAA Championship since 2001! We couldn't let East Tennessee State University golf go unsupported. We're going to make sure their bags get the first-class treatment next season.
Every year, The Masters captivates audiences with its tradition, drama, and world-class competition. But what skills do players need to conquer Augusta National, one of golf's most challenging courses?
✔️ Mastering the Mental Game: The pressure at The Masters is immense. Players need exceptional focus, composure, and belief to navigate the demanding course and handle the high stakes.
✔️ Precision with Long Irons: Augusta National features many long par 3s and tight fairways. Accurate long iron play is crucial for finding greens in regulation and avoiding bogeys.
✔️ Short Game Wizardry: Delicate chips, precise putting, and bunker escapes are essential around Augusta National's fast greens and tricky slopes. Mastering the short game can save strokes and win tournaments.
✔️ Playing the Angles: Augusta National is known for its strategic layout. Understanding how to play each hole with creativity and course knowledge is key to success.
Beyond these, strong fundamentals in grip, posture, and swing mechanics are the foundation for all golfers. With these skills in their arsenal, players battle for the coveted green jacket.

Let's get the ball rolling..... ⛳️
USGA and R&A are expected to announce early next week that they will be changing the rules to roll back distance in golf—and not just for elite players. The expected decision likely would make nearly every popular golf ball played both professionally and recreationally non-conforming. The news comes from multiple industry sources with direct knowledge of the plans of golf’s governing bodies, speaking on background. What is the likelihood of this actually happening? 2028 rollback for pros.
Is the issue how far the ball goes, or how to just mess with you.
My thought, cubic balls with 14 edges. The Tetradecahedron or truncated cube could be used. Of course once on the green you'd put a round ball. Truncated cubes would not have the added roll.

I wonder what Homer Kelley would say to that geometrical predicament.
Attitude in golf is everything, and let me tell you, it's a game of starkly different perspectives. My mentor, he's been around the block, you know, attended tour events where he'd chat up the players. Tour pros, they're a funny bunch. So, there he was, asking Joe how he did that day, and Joe's all like, "Man, it was epic! I was on the 16th, pinned behind this tree. I pulled off this magical shot, bending it around the tree, landed on the green two feet from the hole. Best escape of my life!"
Now, contrast that with
our fellow amateurs at the local course. My mentor asked John how his round
went, and John's like, "Oh, that 17th hole! Every time, I just dunk it
straight into the water." It's like there's a magnetic force in that lake!
Can't seem to get over it if my life depended on it.
Here's the kicker: the
tour players remember only the good stuff, their epic moments. But us regular
folks? We've got a PhD in remembering all our mishaps. It's like we're
practicing for a blooper reel. So, let's take a cue from the pros and focus on
the positives. Because, trust me, if you keep thinking about those water
hazards, you'll never have any fun, and you might just start believing there's
a lake monster hungry for golf balls!

How to get a tee time at St Andrews?
There are a few ways of getting a tee time on the Old Course at St Andrews:
Option 1: Purchasing a guaranteed time. Select tour operators offer guaranteed tee times one-to-two years prior to play. These guaranteed tee times are generally more expensive than those obtained through the Application process described below, through the Ballot or by Standing-By, also described below.
Option 2: Apply through the annual lottery in late-August of the year prior to play. The key is to start your planning early and to have your group names known by July / August. Results of the lottery are announced toward the end of October. This is a guaranteed tee time; however, St Andrews receives many more applications than they have available tee times.
Option 3: A Tee Time by Ballot or Stand-by.
This option is known as the “ballot.” It is essentially a lottery that takes place daily for play two days ahead. While there is no guarantee of success, chances are quite reasonable, especially if you are to be in the St Andrews area for four or five days. We would enter your names into the ballot each day except Friday as the course is closed on Sundays and do it in such a way as to avoid conflict with tee times on other courses.
Option 4: It is possible to walk-on to the Old Course. You can advise the starter that you wish to do so, and he’ll try and fit you in if and when an opportunity arises. Chances of getting on depend on the time of year and how early you arrive at the starter’s box.

By iterating, optimizing and tweaking. That's how Terry Koehler and Edison Wedges have improved one of the best wedges to ever be brought to market with amateur golfers in mind.

"Perfect Your Putting"
Do you want to make more putts? Of course you do, but what should you be working on you may ask? The face of the putter is 4 times more important than the path of the putting stroke for direction. Being said, you must focus more on your clubface at impact than the path of your stroke. Below is a great drill you can perform at home or on the putting green. First off, get yourself a dead or new 9V battery. Place it on the ground and point it at your target. If the battery squirts to the left or right, the face is not square to the target. See if you can tap the battery and make it slide straight. When the battery slides straight, your putter face is perfectly square to the line.
Try this drill and you will be making more putts and enjoying yourself more on the Golf Course.
The Wall Street Journal highlights the surge in off-course play, especially at venues like Topgolf and simulators. These spaces offer flexibility, solid F&B, and cater to all ages, contributing to the game's growth and introducing newcomers to golf. With Topgolf expanding to over 90 locations by year's end, and considering my journey starting when we were venue #26 in 2016, it's incredible to witness this rapid evolution. This energy should continue to pave the way for more people to transition to traditional golf courses. Have you explored off-course golfing? #topgolf#golf#growthstory
Last year, only 37% of New England Country Club’s golfers were finishing on pace. Tagmarshal’s pace of play management system helped them get that number to 84% within 3 months.
New England CC partnered with Tagmarshal to:
- Improve course flow for their members and players
- Reduce their average round time
- Gather data to aid better decision-making.
That 47% improvement in pace meant that 827 rounds were positively impacted in one month alone, leading to an enhanced player experience for hundreds of golfers.
Happy golfers = repeat play, positive referrals and increased spend at on-course facilities.
Chip Hierlihy, PGA, the Fieldstone Golf Club GM, recently said, “If you’re not part of what’s current in technology today to optimize your business, then you’re really missing the boat.”
There’s a reason more than 500 courses around the world, including 2024 Major hosts Pinehurst and Valhalla, trust Tagmarshal to help them with their pace of play and on-course operations.
