As a PR pro and former journalist, I know that a good press release is one that tells a story and also generates earned media (gets journalists to write/do the story!). It must tell news! So what is news? What makes a good press release? Mickie Kennedy of eReleases joins me on Let's Talk PR & More today to discuss best practices of news release writing. Interesting insights about the state of Journalism made by Muck Rack. As PR people is essential to understand journalists in order to have a better synergy with them and achieve our goals. Here the executive summary: • Funding and Trust: About one-third of journalists express concerns about lack of funding and trust in journalism, consistent with last year’s findings. • Employment Trends: More than one-third report layoffs or buyouts, with 30% turning to LinkedIn for job opportunities. Over half prefer a hybrid work arrangement, yet many find themselves working in the office more than desired. • Work Hours and Compensation: A significant 64% work over 40 hours weekly, with 79% working after hours. Yet, only 46% earn more than $70k per year, indicating a gap between workload and compensation. • Content Production: Nearly a quarter produce 11 or more stories weekly, and about one in four primarily publish in legacy media, despite the digital shift. • AI and Social Media: 28% currently use generative AI, with 20% planning to explore its uses, mainly for behind-the-scenes tasks. Social media is crucial, with 70% valuing it for promotion. • Relations with PR: Despite 46% of journalists receiving over 6 pitches daily, 49% seldom or never respond, mainly due to relevance issues. Still, 70% acknowledge PR professionals as at least moderately important to their success. You don't want to loose the whole report:

UGA Athletic Association Endowed Professor, Professor of Public Relations, and Department Head, Advertising and Public Relations
I just finished listening to this podcast episode on PR and Crime Novels featuring our very own Karen Russell and her most recent research on the role of public relations characters within the plots of 74 mystery novels published between 1934 and 2017! Yes, she did read 74 mystery novels! And yes, she published a research article in Public Relations Review to reveal why PR people make such good characters in mystery novels! Here are my favorite lines, "The novels reveal that crime has a PR component." However, a quote from the books, "PR people may kill stories, but they don't kill people." Check out this episode of the Journalism History Podcast! It is so interesting! #publicrelationsresearch #publicrelationsandpopculture #PR https://lnkd.in/eK84VxAt

“Outcome is more important than story” Love him or loathe him, Martin Lewis is one of the most trusted voices in the media, so it was really illuminating to hear his personal views about storytelling during his recent interview on The Media Show. His belief about getting someone to change their actions as a result of his advice really resonated. I mean, what’s the point in producing content, making a podcast, doing a media interview, getting a million hits online, or being on TV and radio if your audience doesn’t respond? When I deliver media training with CoComms - Coherent Comms Ltd we talk about making your message count and why influencing behaviour trumps a nice “key message” with facts and figures that people will doubtless forget. Well worth checking out the interview for anyone with an interest in journalism or communication. #martinlewis #themediashow #clementstories #tellbetterstories #bbcnews #audiomemoirs #mediatraining #storytellingforbusiness #digitalstorytelling #journalism #communications #coherentcomms

Helping entrepreneurs be seen as an expert and attract dream clients by leveraging the power of the press.
If you want to be featured in the press regularly, here are my thoughts: Journalists are always looking for good stories, so have a look at what's happening in your life and in your business and ask yourself if anyone else will be interested? Is it newsworthy? Is it relevant? If you become known for providing good material, they will come back to you for more. Don't just pitch to any random journalist you come across. It's important to work out which journalists are interested and write articles about your story idea and/or your sector. For instance, there's no point pitching a health story to a finance journalist or a fitness story to a technology journalist (unless you've got a new app or something!). Journalists are people too! Start building relationships with them, be helpful and always be polite. What’s your dream publication, programme or podcast where you'd love your business to be featured? Let me know! 📰✨ #story #pr #publicity #journalists #media #marketing #prtips #prstrategy #marketingstrategy

In the current landscape where the media industry faces significant shifts, many talented journalists are exploring their next chapter. Journalists bring a unique blend of authenticity, dedication to truth, meticulous fact-checking, audience engagement strategies, representation, and the ability to uncover original story angles. These skills aren't just nice-to-haves—they're crucial for creating content that resonates deeply with listeners. 🎙️ I recommend you read Jennifer Moss's blog post then dive into the discussion on why these journalistic qualities are indispensable in podcasting, and how they can elevate your content. #Podcasting #Journalism #BrandStorytelling #ContentCreation

Lots of upheaval in the journalism industry of late. Lots of journalists out there looking for their next move. As a former journalist myself, I know what it means to translate that skillset over to branded podcasting space. I wrote a blog about it, even... which I will link you to in the comments. But the basic gist is that you should hire a journalist to handle your podcast if you care about things like: · authenticity, · truth-telling, · fact-checking, · audience engagement, · representation, · original story angles. And you SHOULD care about those things – because your audience certainly does!
