During the past 10 years, more people have died by suicide in the UK than the total attendance at last Sunday's Superbowl LVIII (61,000+). During the 1990's, my family and I lived in the prairies of Manitoba in Canada and every February Jordan and I became NFL fanatics. Jordan himself played the Canadian equivalent of the game, known as the CFL. Back then, we all thought Jordan had his whole life ahead of him - none of us ever imagined that suicide was the biggest potential risk to him and others under 35. Since that fateful day on December 4th 2019, I've set myself on a path, I hadn't planned to find but it definitely found me. What have I learnt since I founded The Jordan Legacy CIC in 2020? 🙏I am not alone (not by a long way) in losing a child to suicide - the stats are chilling! 🙏It is possible to make a difference, no matter how big or small you are - we have a team of 3! 🙏The work we do is emotionally, mentally and physically draining, quite often really, but..... 🙏..it's also hugely rewarding 🙏It's given me a purpose to keep going personally. 👉I need your help though. Every day, our burning question, at The Jordan Legacy, is: “How do we move closer to getting the annual number of suicides on a downward trend, towards Zero?” Quickly followed by: "and how do we remain sustainable so we can achieve our Mission?" And with that latter question in mind, I'd like to ask you a question: 👉Do you know of a company, maybe your own, who would be value becoming a "Hero" or "Superhero" Partner of The Jordan Legacy CIC? Please visit this page on our website: https://lnkd.in/d7XS4Uye for information about our Hero and Superhero partnerships, along with other ways you can support our mission. Your support will help save lives. 🙏Thank you #suicideprevention #zerosuicidesociety

Grief. Literacy. Matters. I just had a conversation with a dear colleague and he asked about the term grief and whether we can use it to describe non death losses. The answer is yes. Using the right language to describe our experience is a critical first step is being better able to manage what is happening to us. In my world, we talk about "we need to name it, to tame it." Grief is our internal and involuntary response to a severed attachment. Ouch! It's a normal phenomena that must be expressed, metabolized and acknowledged. By understanding other forms of losses that trigger grief, like living losses, we can better support self and others. For instance, when companies merge, they often choose to lay off people. The ones that lost their job often feel a deep sense of betrayal and sorrow for this sudden and often unanticipated ending. The ones left behind, often feel survivor guilt ... why them and not me? This can create residual resentment and foster a lack of trust among those left standing. If you are curious to learn more about grief and loss, bereavement, compassionate cultures, and holistic leadership development, consider joining me for a 6-part journey, facilitated through the IOC, a world-leading organization whose mission is to advance the coaching profession. #instituteofcoaching #griefunleashed https://lnkd.in/eUN5uyK6

To help fight one of the main issues affecting the home building industry, the HBA has partnered with an organization called Face It TOGETHER. They do peer-based coaching with a focus on the person with the disease of addiction as well as their loved ones. HBA member companies, their employees, and loved ones are covered by this benefit. That means if you have a brother in TX that is struggling with addiction, he can call FIT as well. They do their coaching via video, phone sessions and in person at their physical location in Colorado Springs, CO, Coaching at FIT typically costs $300 – $500 per month, so this is an enormous benefit that HBA is providing to its members at no cost. It is increasingly difficult to find/retain good workers and trades. Further it’s worse when you have to terminate employment and trade relationships a result of someone testing positive for drug or alcohol. And when you’ve terminated that employee, they may continue to spiral without a paycheck. Face it TOGETHER is a resource that you can use to help that individual fight their addiction, help them strengthen their families, and thereby be an even better employee. We’re huge proponents of win-win’s at HBA. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ewa9Pt4
