"Everyone should be #DevRel, partially" - just finished listening to the fantastic episode of the Scaling DevTools podcast with Ivan Burazin of Daytona. This thought really resonates with me (and this is coming from a professional Dev Advocate). DevRel folks strive for authenticity. That's what makes us successful in the industry, yet NO ONE can beat the level of authenticity of an engineer or a product manager - someone who spends time actually building the products we might be representing (evangelising, advocating, you get the gist). It's why I always like to encourage my team mates and friends to be active in the community. You can just do a bit of it, partially, on the side. It doesn't have to be a speaking gig (plenty of folks don't like that), it can be writing, even social media interactions, forum discussions, support chats, anything that gets YOUR VOICE in front of REAL PEOPLE. It helps your company, because it gets first-hand, authentic voices out, and it helps folks who contribute in the community. (And especially if you are in the dev tools business, you should have it in all your job postings, at least on Senior+ levels). And it helps YOU, the employee, get YOUR VOICE out. Being out there in the industry, in the community is a great way to help you grow your network (and ultimately get paid more), and grow your own inter-personal core skills. I have helped folks get started with speaking and writing, and land conference talks. Happy to help you or your team too - lets talk! And here's the podcast episode - the bit I mention is in the last ~2-ish minutes, but absolutely listen to the whole thing: https://pca.st/zv63sxgp

We were delighted to be asked by AmplifyFE to do a podcast with Chloë Hynes earlier in the summer 😊 and it's just been published! In 'Four Seasons, Golden Unicorns and Radical Rest' we talk about the thinking behind the changemakers' community #FEConstellations and how we pivoted after our first year to open the community to free membership, in line with our values and our tremendous experience of community on the #APConnect programme. Co-creation is at the heart of #FEConstellations, coming together in anti-competitive, pan-organisational practice, to share our thoughts and experiences - and crucially, make new knowledge together. As Joss says, "Co-creation is such a simple word, but whoah! It's such a tough practice because it means giving up so much - ego, ways of knowing, in order to create that space and that equality for voices to be heard...you have to slow down in order to do that." We make it easier. There's a gentle rhythm to being part of this (free) community. Participate as and when you wish. We have built a virtual architecture which brings you regular provocations - questions, polls, livestreams and artefacts - to spur your thinking into new dimensions. As we say in the podcast, "There's something about online spaces which lend themselves to discipline...and allow us to have those water cooler conversations - when the right design processes are in place." 'The right design processes' demonstrate the #ThinkingEnvironment paradox of 'freedom needs boundaries' - protected spaces which benefit neuro-regulation and thus benefit us all. And we also talk about our #RadicalRest course and why it took us a year to write, because we had to develop our own authentic practices around rest. It's a lifetime's work in progress, but the course is now live and flourishing, check it out here: bit.ly/445nTeq For the podcast: https://lnkd.in/es9B_Rzd To join the FEConstellations community: www.feconstellations.net #RadicalRest #Changemaking #SystemsChange #CultureChange #neurodiversity #GoldenUnicorns🦄 #FE
