Are you making this amateur goal-setting mistake? A lot of people set goals based on what they want to AVOID: ✘ "I don’t want to miss deadlines” ✘ "I don't want to have conflicts with my team” ✘ "I need to stop losing clients" But this isn't motivating, nor effective. Plus, it can increase your stress by focussing you on the thing you want to avoid. Instead, set approach goals → focus on what you WANT. ✔ “To build a professional network in my industry” ✔ “To increase my confidence as a speaker” ✔ “To publish an article in a top industry publication" These goals ignite excitement and energy, driving you toward success. (Then of course, break them down into manageable chunks and get started) It’s a simple tweak that can put you on the path to reaching your goals sooner. P.S. Do you tend to set goals based on what you want, or what you’re trying to avoid? #goalsetting #goals
Thanks for posting
Setting goals based on what you want to achieve rather than avoid can ignite motivation and lead to tangible success
(Tiny typo in your first bullet point: I don't want to miss deadlines'. Love your work!
One of the most simple and yet most important life tip. Which basically, when you think about it from a location stand point for example, is very easy to emphasize : if you're in a place, want to leave but don't know where to go, then you have very high chance to stay where you are. However, if you're great where you are, still really want to go and visit another place, you will do it.
This is certainly valid. But, we must not forget that our taste for nostalgia is flexible and conducive to what we truly value most. In other words, there is a particular reward system that can be re configured through time and effort, where challenging tasks can be dealt with either a positive or negative framework. Often times when working with other individuals you simply don’t have the time to re configure their framework of thinking 🧐 So you must be able to adapt and focus on results. Self Development should always be imposed by one’s own self.
Setting goals based on what you want to avoid can trap you in a negative mindset and increase stress. Instead, focusing on what you want to achieve creates motivation and excitement. For example, aiming to build a professional network or boost your confidence as a speaker is far more inspiring than trying to avoid negative outcomes. This simple shift can significantly accelerate your progress.
All of my goals are focused on measurable accomplishment that move the needle on meeting my vision.
Basically I feel we should set daily goals that will result in a particular big goal For example increasing your followers and sales as a digital marketer, Your goal should be within generating leads daily and good contents at a particular implementation format then overtime you can hit your desired goal
I agree. Though, I think being clear on what you don't want can actually also help you avoid slacking. Knowing you don't want to die of diabetes can actually be a strong deterrent from eating too much junk. So, a combination is in order.
