Can you imagine if you were a 32 year old competing with Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. That’s Tim Ellis His company, Relativity Space, is worth $4.2 billion and launches fully 3-D printed rockets into space. His origin story is awesome: - Interns at Blue Origin where he pitches them on fully 3-D printing rockets - They say “nice R&D” but don’t do anything with the project / idea - Quits to start his own company at 25 years old 7 years later: - His company reaches 850 employees (500 of them are ex-SpaceX 🤣) - They just did $1.2 billion in launch sales in the last 3 months - In 2021 they just got exclusive rights to their own launch site (only 4 launch sites exist in the US and the last one was built in 1960) My big takeaways: - Trust yourself: He believed in 3-D printing and centered his entire company around it - Build defensibility: Moat is around being able to 3-D print an entire rocket + securing launch sites - Low ego: At the event my buddy Romeen Sheth organized, he was asking questions to everyone, not focused on being the star in the room Bad. Ass. 32 going up against 2 of the richest and smartest people in the world.

Wow. That is the ultimate automation. 3D printing the Rocket. What would be the next step? 3D printing using rocks from the meteor and creating rockets in space. Next, occupy the universe and be an inter-planetary species.
What I find amazing is that they have $1.2 billion in sales and still haven’t actually flown anything!
Roger Bannister broke the 4 min mile. Once he broke it 1,633 athletes have now also broken it. Elon Musk broke open the opportunity to build affordable rockets. He broke the concept of single use rockets. Although I don't know Elon, much of what he develops he shares. Although I expect he enjoys being in the lead, I don't see him a person that would crush or destroy the competition (like many corporations) , but rather one that enjoys pushing forward technology and the opportunity to change humanity for the better. This does not take away from Tim or his team accomplishments. They have done well and would expect them to continue push what is possible forward.
Would be my kind of hero if Tim Ellis used his and his teams knowledge to invent a renewable energy source. And print his rockets with biodegradable material Shaan Puri It shall be obvious now that we as humanity shall overthink our carbon footprints.. If 3D print may help us there- I am a fan. If carbon footprint levels are the same as for any other rocket enterprise - then overthink the process.
I'm 31 and sell things on Amazon. That's it. No point.
I just wanna know the brand of shirt he rocked at GameTime conference so I can cop me one too 😛
Shaan Puri you are conveniently omitting the fact that he was born in the US, living in a western capitalist society and having access to the education system and all the opportunities there. The majority of the people in the world do not have the same starting point. I was born in an ex-comunist society with a very different outlook and education system, and significantly less opportunities. It took me the first ~30 years of my life to open my eyes and re-educate myself in the west. That is a massive hurdle to get over just to get to the same starting point as Tim Ellis I’m not criticising your post, just pointing out something you may have not been aware of.
I prefer a Blue Ocean strategy where there is little competition and a lot of room to grow. Bloody red pools full of sharks competing for the same meal is an environment to avoid in my book. I admire their success so far, I don't envy their path forward. Best of luck.
Inventor of the 2 hour lunchbreak. started 6 companies, ☠️3 failed, 💰2 sold, 1 still going 🏋️♂️
1yDefinitely no small boi stuff here.
