So on Friday this happened! I received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Middlesex. It was a truly beautiful day in so many ways. We were looked after so well as special guests. I got emotional in my speech which meant that afterwards lots of people came over to me to say how moved they were. Everyone cried basically! I didn’t go to university but have been through the University of Life and have been in community spaces for more than 25 years, doing this work week in week out. And I still love it! To be recognised for it in this way is a truly beautiful thing. Lots of people shared their stories with me including a lot of women, Muslim and others. Sharing with me all the stuff they carry. Middlesex University is a wonderful place of diversity in every sense. People literally from all over the world study there. So for some of them they are the first in their family to go to Uni. Some very wonderful examples I saw and heard about. My (Jewish) friend Lindsay Simmonds was honoured at the same time for her peace-building work over two decades and also for our work together. So lovely they gave it to us and we spoke from the stage, together. Thanks to Krish Raval OBE for being the one to properly introduce us in the first place. I am truly thankful to those who have been on this journey with me and also for the bumps in the road and the difficult moments and difficult people because of course, as I said in my speech, much as we don’t like it at the time, those are the growth moments. And God knows it all. My girls were both away but Eesa Siddiqi and Musa Siddiqi were there which was lovely along with Nav, my mum and step-dad. We were all so well looked after. And we got to meet Tim Campbell from The Apprentice too, a very nice man also being given a Doctorate. A truly blessed day, one to remember and cherish. Alhamdulillah 💜🙏🏽. Love from Dr Julie 😉
