One of our main areas of focus at Services for the UnderServed is to lend a helping hand to those who struggle to put enough healthy food on the table for themselves and their families. Over the past couple of years, we’ve stepped up programming for our community food security which includes our urban farming, community fridge food and pantry items, and therapeutic horticulture, all aimed at ensuring everyone in our community has access to the nutrition that they deserve. https://lnkd.in/eypNh9W8

I am deeply troubled by the recent Supreme Court decision striking down Grants Pass v. Johnson which allows people experiencing homelessness to face arrest for sleeping in public spaces. Let me be clear: being homeless is not a crime and we should not be penalizing folks who have fallen on hard times. At Services for the UnderServed, we are committed to working with unhoused individuals and providing critical services to address the root causes of homelessness and put them on the path to permanent housing. https://lnkd.in/etX42YUj
We’re thrilled to finalize this acquisition and begin the process of transforming these long-neglected buildings into safe, affordable homes. We plan to fully update and renovate the building, preserving homes for the 11 existing rent-stabilized tenants while converting the remaining 69 units into affordable housing for homeless families. I'm very proud of Arlo Chase, Heather Gershen, and our entire real estate team for closing on the acquisition last week of 351-357 45th Street in Hell's Kitchen. These historic tenement buildings (and their tenants) have been subject to shocking neglect and deterioration under prior ownership. With our purchase of the property, we'll be able to fully renovate these buildings to fit their highest and best use as #affordablehousing for families in need --- without displacing current rent-stabilized tenants. This building has long been a blight on the Hell's Kitchen community, and we are excited to play a crucial role in its rehabilitation. https://lnkd.in/ezwCFHFS
