Living in Oregon, where the process of submitting my ballot is seamlessly integrated into daily life, it's challenging to envision standing in line for such a task. However, countless individuals face the struggle of finding time to cast their vote, often relying on childcare to fulfill this civic duty. Politisit addresses this need by offering financial support for childcare, empowering caregivers to actively participate in civic engagements like voting, attending PTA meetings, or other community activities. It's a truly innovative concept, and I wholeheartedly endorse it. Will you join me in supporting this initiative? https://lnkd.in/eR8zdCJq

In the February 2024 Housing & Health issue of Health Affairs, Kierra Barnett of Nationwide’s Children’s Hospital and her team of coauthors document the history of structural racism in Linden, a neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. Linden is a neighborhood characterized by high rates of unemployment, crime, and disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes. The authors contextualize these disparities through an exploration of 100 years of discriminatory state and local policies, particularly those related to housing, that have shaped health in Linden, Ohio. These policies include racial deed restrictions, redlining, blockbusting, mass incarceration, and the subprime lending crisis. Barnett and coauthors advocate for structural racism- and discrimination-informed strategic community development initiatives to promote lasting change in Linden. I facilitate business partnerships and recruit skilled support workers in youth and disability services across NSW, ACT, and QLD.
5 things nobody told you about Youth Workers! 1️⃣ Every Day is Different: From mentoring sessions to crisis interventions, no two days are alike in youth work. 2️⃣ Emotional Resilience is Essential: Supporting youths through their challenges can be emotionally taxing. Developing resilience and self-care practices are crucial to maintain your well-being and continue making a positive impact. 3️⃣ Building Trust Takes Time: Establishing trust with the young people you work with doesn't happen overnight. It requires patience, consistency, and genuine empathy to foster meaningful connections and rapport. 4️⃣ Advocacy is a Vital Role: As a youth worker, advocating for the rights and needs of your clients is a significant part of your role. Whether it's navigating systems or challenging stigma, advocacy is essential for creating positive change. 5️⃣ Celebrating Small Victories: While the work can be challenging, witnessing the growth and achievements of the youths you support makes it all worthwhile. Celebrating small victories, whether it's academic progress or personal milestones, reinforces the impact of your efforts. #TalentQuarter #YouthWorkers #CommunityCare #Jobs

This week we had a great number of Community Veterans Engagement Boards (CVEB) that gathered together on our CVEB Office Hours where we discussed Promising Practices, Reporting Outcomes and a Deep Dive into our VetResources Community Idea Lab. Special Shout-out to Charlie Hall | Cassie Barlow | John Smith | Kimberly Scofi | James Heaton for sharing their models and showcasing all the AMAZING work they do in service to our Veterans, families, caregivers, and survivors!! Thank you 🤜🤛 Another Special Shout-out to Deirdre Armstrong at Bob Woodruff Foundation highlighting the incredible outcomes and impact of the Got Your 6 Network!! Thank you 🙌 In addition, did you all know that there are over 120+ CVEBs across the US at various levels of maturity. They are community collaborations that seek to maximize different local stakeholders and leverage collective impact to address local Veteran issues. Many of these CVEBS have implemented Successful Practices to include but not limited to; 🎯Follow proven success factors of collective impact and principles of community engagement that guide the CVEBs 🎯Integrate local service providers and stakeholders with local VA offices to address gaps in services 🎯Identify targeted localized goals and follow a model of impact metrics 🎯Remain inclusive, accessible, and share information on community engagement activities with the public 🎯Listen to the voice of the Veteran, family, caregiver, and survivor. The Veterans Experience Office (VEO) engages with these local boards to: ☑️ Conduct outreach to Veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors ☑️ Disseminate information on different VA and community resources ☑️ Assist in ensuring they are fully-functioning and maintaining contact across VA administrations If you would like to connect with an existing CVEB, thought about starting a CVEB, or simply want to learn more…Let’s connect and set up call!! #CommunityVeteranEngagementBoard #CVEBs #Collaborate #Outreach #Veterans #BestPractices #Resources #VA #Thriving

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of joining elected officials, community organizers, students, activists, journalists, and higher ed and nonprofit leaders at the Summit for Civic Health, a gathering convened by the Henry M Jackson Foundation, Evans School of Public Policy & Governance, University of Washington, The William D. Ruckelshaus Center and Washington's Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck to think creatively about how to strengthen our increasingly fractured civic health. It was an invigorating day of brainstorming, hearing new perspectives, sharing experiences, and thinking outside the box--and most importantly, of coming up with concrete and actionable steps we can take to make progress towards a stronger civic society. As Lt. Gov. Heck wrote in a recent The Seattle Times op-ed, "Democracy doesn’t run on autopilot. Every generation is responsible for keeping it on course." Progress can feel slow, but making progress is essential, and I'm proud to be part of organizations dedicated to this work. Creating a gender equal world by investing in vulnerable girls to lead a dignified life and enabling youth to recognise and achieve their full potential.
We embarked on this journey in March this year. At the PankhRise Foundation, we're thrilled to share our latest achievements on our mission to empower and uplift communities. Here are some significant milestones we've reached so far: 1️⃣ Needs Assessment: We embarked on a comprehensive assessment of needs in various schools to better understand the challenges faced by communities. 2️⃣ Partnerships: We're excited to announce that we've partnered with 5 schools based on our assessment findings. Solidifying these partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) paves the way for impactful collaborations. 3️⃣ Baseline Survey: Our dedicated team conducted a baseline survey in all selected schools, gathering crucial information that will guide our efforts effectively. 4️⃣ Understanding Girls' Needs: We conducted a pre-survey involving 400 girls, delving deeper into their unique situations and needs to tailor our support accordingly. 5️⃣ Community Engagement: We believe in the power of community involvement. In this spirit, we organized special events in 4 schools, bringing together girls' guardians to sign agreements, fostering a collective commitment to progress. These milestones are just the beginning, and we're more determined than ever to continue making a positive impact. Stay tuned for more updates as we work towards our vision of empowering individuals and communities to reach new heights! #PankhRiseFoundation #Empowerment #CommunityImpact #empoweredwomen #girlchildempowerment

🌟 Exciting Insights from “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” 🌟 I recently watched the heartwarming film “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” and found it to be a treasure trove of lessons in policy and advocacy. Here are some key takeaways: 1. Empowerment: This film reminds me of the importance of empowering individuals to chase their dreams at any age. How can we incorporate lifelong learning and self-improvement into our policy initiatives? 2. Strengthening Our Networks: The story underlines the value of strong social networks. How can we reinforce community ties and provide support systems to bolster citizens in their pursuit of dreams? 3. Community Engagement in Policy Development: It’s clear that involving the community in policy development can lead to more effective and inclusive solutions. How can we actively engage citizens in shaping policies that impact their lives? 4. Economic Inclusivity: The film beautifully bridges socioeconomic divides. How can we implement policies that promote inclusivity and ensure that everyone has a safety net to fall back on in times of need? What other policy lessons do you think we can glean from this film, and how can we apply them to enhance this place we call home? Photo of the wonderful Kate Nicholl who launched a plan to sort out our childcare crisis go check it out! #PolicyAdvocacy #CommunityEngagement #Inclusivity #DreamPursuit
