Saturday Reflections! Analyzing the events of the first half of 2024, I can personally assert that the russians are confidently winning on the democratic cyber front in the EU and the USA. All efforts were aimed at protecting government, defense, and critically important objects. This was exactly what the enemy expected and actively played into. Meanwhile, they were actively and productively preparing for a hybrid attack exclusively on the population of these countries. Data theft, ransomware, and targeted disinformation have achieved the desired result. The russians succeeded in sowing distrust in governments, local leaders of pro-European parties, and distrust among the population themselves. This is what democratic countries were not prepared for. It is extremely difficult to acknowledge the aggressive actions carried out in cyberspace by the russians over the past five years. This is just the beginning of the open and crude hybrid war that russia has been waging against the civilized world for a long time!
This is the most competently waged aspect of the Russian offensive. The West remains effectively defenseless in the face of it, for now.
