The Elizabeth Dole Home Care Act The House passed the “Elizabeth Dole Home- and Community-Based Services for Veterans and Caregivers Act” (H.R. 542), sponsored by Rep. Julia Brownley (Calif.), marking the single largest expansion of long-term care services at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in decades. This legislation would significantly improve and expand home- and community-based services for disabled or aging veterans. The bill would require the VA to establish agreements with outside providers to furnish medical and social services for veterans not in VA nursing homes. The bill also would require the VA to improve in-home assistance and support for caregivers of veterans and raise the limit on expenses for nursing home care provided outside of VA facilities. Additionally, the bill would require the VA to conduct several studies related to medical and health services for elderly veterans and report on those topics. Long-term care is one of the biggest challenges facing our aging population and their families, and our veteran population is no exception, with almost half of VA’s patient population being over 65. The bill sponsor noted, “Disabled and aging veterans want to be cared for in their homes, with their families, in their communities, and our veterans have more than earned the right to have the option of living their lives at home.” Members can weigh in on this issue at: https://lnkd.in/es9Tuq-t Read more @bit.ly/3H42MPX #NDAA #wreathacrossamerica #CFPB #elizabethdolefoundation #caregiver

Growth Strategist | Regional Business Development Leader | Board-Level Executive & Clinical Liaison with a passion for Aging Well | Empowering People & Delivering Results | SNF, LTC, Senior Living, Hospital
Every day, I collaborate with nonprofits and dedicated teams serving our older adult community. Yet, I sometimes worry that the vital role of Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) and Long-Term Care (LTC) is not fully recognized. Our industry provides a lifeline of care and recovery for countless individuals across the nation. People from all walks of life are often referred by hospitals and recover from illness and injury within our walls every day. Additionally, we cater to those needing the highest level of subacute care. The people who seek our services are likely your neighbors, friends, and family members, and the demand is ever-growing. According to the latest data, approximately 1.2 million people reside in certified nursing homes across the U.S. Personally, I have witnessed the transformative impact on individuals in our centers firsthand. With dedicated teams of licensed clinicians, specialists, social workers, dieticians, physicians, therapists, and activity coordinators, we provide the comprehensive care and treatment necessary for patients recovering from strokes, injuries, or illnesses. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures they receive the extensive care and rehabilitation needed to regain mobility and independence. The success stories highlight the importance of our work and the dire need for our services within the communities we serve. I ask you to share your support and recognize the critical role of SNFs and LTC in our communities. I am on a mission to educate our communities before they find themselves in crisis. #knowledgeispower #RememberWeAllAge #SkilledNursingAndRehab #BeTheDifference #Healthcare #Maryland #MontCARE #Preferredcare

Enhancing careers, lives and social mobility. #Employability #Careercoach #Confidencecoach #Executivecoach #Lifecoach
Over the past 7 days one of my family members has spent over 24 hours (over 2 sessions) in the WVT Hereford A&E Department. That is after waiting 12 hours for an ambulance. They were suffering with severe chest pain and breathing difficulties. Now Hereford A&E, is it any wonder that staff retention is at an all time low when they are subjected to such appalling working conditions? For patients however, it is an absolute disgrace, the waiting area for the whole of A&E, where my family member spent most time is effectively a small corridor. A small corridor with very limited seating. An area where on Thursday evening, there were as many people standing as were seated and on Monday up to 8 over 70's were left standing. I can only think that this is part of the ex Prime Ministers attempt to reduce the aging population. Nobody should be subjected to this appalling environment. There is clearly not enough space in this "new" waiting area for A&E and combined with the lack of space where triage is attempted, patient care and dignity is severely compromised. Combine this with a GP system which attempts make access to a doctor ever more difficult you have a structure which is not fit for purpose across Herefordshire.
