Across the rural U.S., patients struggle to secure transportation, childcare, and time off work to make doctor’s appointments. In South Carolina, an ambitious new initiative is changing that. Clemson Rural Health recently launched a program to support women with prediabetes and diabetes, along with a targeted initiative for pregnant women with diabetes and hypertension. To help them avoid potentially deadly complications, nurse practitioners crisscross the region in mobile health units, bringing care to underserved communities. But too often, patients struggle to make their way to the parking lots where the mobile health units camp out. To bridge the gap, Clemson Rural Health partnered with our team at Carium. The result? An end-to-end virtual care platform that ensures everyone gets the care they need — wherever they are. “It’s working,” one nurse practitioner said. “We’re helping a lot of people. RETIRED Family Physician and Chair of The Board of Directors at The Institute for Medicaid Innovation
It is way past time to improve the health of women in this country, especially reproductive/maternity care. The Institute for Medicaid Innovation and its partners in the Maternal Health Policy Equity Summit created a list of actionable steps to improve outcomes. Join us in this critical effort! Learn more at https://lnkd.in/ekv6csuH
The rates of #maternalmortality and morbidity in this country are astounding and deeply disturbing. Much work—and an unqualified commitment to get the job done—are needed not only to meet the challenge of reversing these trends, but also to ensure that the goals of health equity and accountability are paramount. In late September 2023, Marna Armstead, SisterWeb's Executive Director, joined leaders in maternal and infant health for a landmark Maternal Health Policy Equity Summit, held in Washington D.C., to address ways to fundamentally improve the nation’s maternal and infant health outcomes. We were proud to be selected by and gather with Institute for Medicaid Innovation to create a blueprint to improve these outcomes and make a better nation for birthing individuals and babies. Using existing policy levers at the local, state, and federal levels, these ideas can be translated into actionable steps. That won’t be easy, and it won’t be quick. But the nation cannot wait to take on this challenge full throttle. The time is now. We hope you will read more and join the effort to improve maternal and infant health: https://lnkd.in/gfD24jZ9 #reproductivejustice #birthjustice #birthequity #sisterweb #communitydoulas #blackdoulasmatter

We believe all birthing people deserve safety, dignity, and respect throughout the prenatal to postpartum journey. The Century Foundation (TCF) and Ancient Song are working to make community-based doula services more accessible by championing equitable health policies. The maternal mortality crisis in the U.S. demonstrates how critical it is to expand doula programs to increase quality care and improve childbirth outcomes for marginalized and underserved populations. These programs are based in the communities they serve and provide unique and culturally responsive patient services cultivated by deep connections and trust. They also help enhance the care individuals receive by providing referrals for those who need more comprehensive support. TCF is one of 11 Communities in Action for Health Equity grantees, driving solutions to advance health equity with support from Pfizer’s Multicultural Health Equity Collective and Institute of Translational Equitable Medicine. 🎙️ In case you missed it: Our exceptional Chief Medical Officer Dr. Marylou Buyse lent her insights to the "Titans of Healthcare" podcast in an enlightening episode titled "Navigating the Horizon: Innovations and Partnerships Shaping the Future of Maternal Care." The podcast shed light on critical maternal and infant health issues, emphasizing the urgency of collective efforts. Dr. Buyse delved into key challenges like complications, limited prenatal care access, and systemic racism barriers. The crisis particularly affects black maternal health, highlighting systemic racism, trust issues, and non-medical barriers. It's clear we face challenges, but it's equally clear we must address them head-on. At Community Health Choice, we remain committed to maternal health equity through community partnerships, goal alignment with providers, and technology engagement. Let's continue collaborative efforts towards healthier moms and babies! 🌟 #MaternalHealthEquity #TitansOfHealthcare #CommunityHealthChoice #HealthcareLeadership #NavigatingTheHorizon https://lnkd.in/gUCEqnVF

Did you know? Local Medi-Cal offices review eligibility for most Medi-Cal members every year. Everyone’s renewal date is different. During the public health emergency (PHE), Medi-Cal members were able to keep their coverage regardless of changes in circumstances. But the continuous coverage requirement ended on March 30, 2023, and the Medi-Cal annual renewal redetermination operations resumed. This means that before their renewal date every year, all Medi-Cal members need to ensure that their information is up to date, and that their coverage is protected, or they will lose Medi-Cal coverage. Our call to action for our CMQCC trusted maternal health care partners, is for you to reach out and bring awareness about the resumption of Medi-Cal renewals to your pregnant and parenting patients. This can be done by using the key messages recommended by California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) available on the CMQCC website here: https://ow.ly/GR8v50S2RpQ
