The Oregon Health Authority FY 2022 Hospital Community Benefit Report shows that not only did Oregon’s hospitals continue to invest in their communities in 2022, those investments came during very challenging financial conditions. Rising expenses, workforce shortages, and stalled revenue combined to crater hospital stability. Despite financial headwinds, in FY 2022 community benefit spending rose nearly 20% statewide, and 92% of Oregon hospitals met their community benefit spending obligations, which shows hospitals’ commitment to the communities they serve. #orleg #orpol

During major emergencies like earthquakes, floods, or mass shootings, health resources can quickly become overwhelmed, causing breakdowns in communication and coordination. Hospitals may reach capacity, leaving some patients stranded without adequate care and making it difficult for family or friends to locate them. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Texas faced these challenges but improved their emergency healthcare response by implementing new systems and technologies.
