#WorldEnvironmentDay2024 55 million people are directly affected by droughts annually, making it one of the most serious hazard to livestock and crops in nearly every part of the world. This always disproportionately affects those who are least equipped to cope – indigenous communities, rural communities, smallholder farmers and especially women and youth. Climate change pushes more people into poverty and financial autonomy is key into breaking this cycle. Decentralised renewable energy and its productive and efficient use has the potential to chart alternate development pathways while not compromising the needs of the population at the margins but also taking into account for what is good for our planet. Here are some highlights on building climate resilience with communities in India. 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲 – 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 “𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘌𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦” According to the Government’s data recently presented to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), India lost 31%, or 5.65 million hectares of grassland area in a decade. Agriculture is the backbone of our country, and it is getting degraded day by day due to climatic changes and human activities. Our selfish acts had degraded our vegetation to such an extent that Desertification has reached an alarming level. 96 million hectares or close to 29% of India’s area is undergoing degradation. Our future will be catastrophic if we will not take steps to save our mother earth from degradation. Let’s do afforestation as much as possible and let’s find ways to reduce global warming so that further desertification can be prevented, and vegetation can be saved. This will aid in Drought resilience as well. Less rainfall due to climate change is one of the major reasons for droughts and due to which our farmers face challenges, and this affects their livelihood, and they are forced to suppress under huge debt which after a certain point becomes unbearable. We “𝙆𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞 𝙎𝙖𝙙𝙖𝙠” as an organization regularly do our part for the environment by planting trees every year and maintaining them. We also delve into sustainable ways and raise awareness among school kids and involve them in activities such as planting trees, waste management, reusing and recycling things which help them connect with nature and be sensitive towards it. Save our future, Take actions for our children and fellow countrymen. Don’t be ignorant. Let’s pledge to save our environment in any possible way. #worldenvironmentday #2024

As far as exposure to climate stressors is concerned, female-headed households are more likely than male-headed households to reside in areas where temperatures are rising quickly and where floods occur frequently. This is likely since increased exposure to climate stressors is a driver of male outmigration, leaving more women behind as household heads in these areas. #Climate #FAO #Female #Households #Rural #Stressors #TheUnjustClimateMeasuringtheimpactofclimatechangeonruralpoor #womenandyouth

As we observe #WorldEnvironmentDay, let's strive to take every necessary step to protect the essence of our planet - our environment so that the next generation can live freely and take pride in our beloved habitat! Speaking on the occasion, Anand Kumar Bolimera, National Director, Habitat for Humanity India, says, "Climate change exacerbates housing challenges, especially for vulnerable and marginalized communities. Rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and unpredictable climate patterns threaten homes and livelihoods, pushing many into a cycle of poverty and displacement. Housing can play an important role in mitigating the impacts of climate change. By prioritizing climate-resilient housing, we not only protect the environment but also empower communities to thrive despite the challenges posed by climate change." #ClimateChange #GoGreen #ClimateAction #SustainableFuture #Sustainability

The deadly combination of Global warming, EL-NINO and Climate change, has already started creating havoc on agriculture around the world. The years 2024-27 are going to be extremely hard and trying times for farming dependent communities and rural populations. GLIDE is a livelihood approach that can save them in these times. It is also the most economical, simple and least resource dependent approach. It requires just a small program budget for the CSO, to organize GLIDE workshop(s) for their communities. Implementation can happen along with the existing work, and does not require extra human resources. So while you are preparing your Program Budgets for the next year, just include a component of GLIDE based livelihoods in your Programs, and see how it benefits your communities. https://lnkd.in/dsC72Zjb

Climate change is a global phenomenon that significantly affects various aspects of our daily lives. For instance, we can observe the effect of climate change on our #dailylife through changes in weather patterns. These changes may include more frequent and intense #heatwaves , #droughts , #floods , #storms , and extreme weather events. Furthermore, the impact of climate change can be witnessed in #agricultural practices and food production. Farmers may experience difficulties in adapting their crop planting schedules due to shifting seasons and unpredictable #weather patterns, leading to reduced crop yields and food shortages. Example in India, the dependence on agriculture for livelihood makes the population particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The weather patterns have been impacting the Indian farmer community, leading to challenges in water availability for irrigation and the prevalence of pests and diseases that affect crop productivity. Additionally, climate change can also be observed in the melting of glaciers and polar ice caps, leading to rising sea levels. This can result in coastal #erosion , flooding of low-lying areas, and the displacement of communities. Furthermore, climate change can also have an impact on human health. For example, the increasing temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses and worsen air pollution, thereby affecting respiratory health. The impact of climate change on daily life is undeniable and far-reaching. From changes in weather patterns to agricultural challenges and health effects, it is evident that climate change poses a significant threat to our well-being and the environment. Urgent action is needed to mitigate these effects and work towards a more #sustainable future for all. It is crucial for individuals, communities, and governments to collaborate on implementing measures to reduce #greenhouse gas #emissions , adapt to changing conditions, and protect vulnerable populations and ecosystems. Only through collective efforts can we hope to address the challenges posed by #climatechange and ensure a better quality of life for current and future generations. #climateresilience #climateadaptation #climatepolicy #climate #climateaction #ghgemissions #ghgprotocol #ghg #environment #environmentalimpact

#climatechange #treat #lifeonland #lifeinwater #human #interventions #pollution #globalboiling #naturaldisasters CLIMATE CHANGE BEING THE BIGGEST THREAT TO LIFE ON EARTH The result of human interventions is a changing climate characterized by #risin global #temperatures , altered precipitation patterns, more frequent and severe weather events, rising #sea #levels , and disruptions to #ecosystems . These changes, in turn, threaten the survival of various species, including polar bears, coral reefs, and many others, as they struggle to adapt or relocate to suitable habitats. While humans are indeed the most intelligent species on Earth, the pursuit of economic growth, technological advancement, and convenience has often come at the expense of the environment. However, it's important to note that there is also growing awareness and action to address these issues. Efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to renewable energy sources, protect ecosystems, and promote sustainable practices are being undertaken worldwide to mitigate the impact of climate change and protect the planet's biodiversity. The realization of the harm caused by human intervention is leading to a collective effort to address these challenges and find solutions for a more sustainable future. According to HSBC, India is the most vulnerable country to climate change. Climate change could cut agricultural incomes in India, especially in unirrigated areas. Rising temperatures and declines in rainfall would hit these areas the hardest. Ajay Ojha Prasad Pawar Md.
