Second Harvest Heartland has a passionate group of student volunteers who work with our Volunteer Engagement Team over a semester. One of these volunteers is Lauren, a student at the University of St. Thomas majoring in marketing. “I’ve participated in several of the Brooklyn Park packing shifts, but I’ve also been a part of a remote project. … It’s been really cool to see a community come together with the specific big goal of ending hunger together.”

Our Outdoor Allies series explores how other outdoor adventurers got their start in advocacy work. Cooper Davis is a Jesuit educator in Phoenix, Arizona dedicated to uplifting Indigenous youth voices in defense of our common home and creating opportunities for young people of all backgrounds to experience the outdoors. As a teacher, what have you learned about young people and their relationship with advocacy? "Part of our mission as a school to envision a hope filled future and my students are pretty hope filled. They feel like they have a voice, they feel like they can stand up and make a difference. Instead of trying to identify problems, we think about how to use friction positively. We think about how we develop relationships to solve problems. We do that in all sorts of ways, from how to throw away trash on campus to how to work with the federal government to pass legislation." And yes, I need to gather info before I can make that happen, so if this interests you, I'd greatly appreciate a few minutes of your time to complete this. Many thanks! #community #cmgr #communitymanagement

Behind the scenes of a community outreach plan that spanned across 3 states. Things I learned: 1. Planting metal poles amid tree roots is a great team building exercise. 2. Blue Powerade >Purple Powerade 3. There are three different categories of barricades, thanks Hunter White! 4. Proclamations are fancy, accept them when offered. 5. When planning events silly things like desks and chairs take too much space in an office. 6. People are good, and want to do good. Give them the opportunity and they will rise to the occasion. 7. Though ribbon cuttings are a nice photo op, they signify much more than that. It’s about people showing up for you, supporting a common goal, standing behind that red ribbon and collectively saying WE did this. 8. I can now do hotdog to bun ratio math in my sleep, but if I haven’t slept I might forget to buy the hotdogs that go in the buns… #AlwaysLearning

Put your hands together for our Community Relations Program Coordinator, Celina Giles! 👏 Q: Tell us a little bit about what you do at the Chargers. A: My role in Community Relations encompasses all areas of our department including community outreach, football development, and our foundation, The Chargers Impact Fund. I plan large-scale volunteer events for fans and staff, assist with the 50/50 Raffle on gamedays, coordinate players' hospital visits with CHLA, and last year, took part in facilitating our high school girls' flag football league in partnership with the Rams. Q: How did you get started? A: I previously interned with the Chargers CR team for the 2019-2020 season. Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job? A: The most rewarding part of my job is being able to genuinely help others and see the immediate impact it has on them and the community as a whole. Q: Any advice for those trying to get a job in sports? A: Be authentic, work hard, and don't take the opportunities you have for granted. #communityrelations #workinsports

This year's #LearningDisabilityWeek theme is 'Do You See Me?' which is all about being seen, heard and valued. We've spoken to Keith, who is supported by one of our community hubs and is an active member of the Salford Listening to People forum. When I first started as the Volunteer Manager for Camp Fire First Texas, I volunteered in our programs and presented for the Career Speaker Series with our Teens in Action program. The students, who were naturally curious, asked various questions from my favorite TV shows to my interests. Still, my favorite question would be, "What skills makes someone successful in a job?" This question was from a group of middle school students, and they were already thinking this far ahead! My answer was adaptability, resourcefulness, creativity, and a willingness to learn. Ideas that these students were already exhibiting! While there are many things that I took away from this experience, my most memorable is the continued need to help guide the next generation. Assisting students to imagine new possibilities is part of the charge of education, and I would like to invite you to take part in this! In general, everyone has a different background and variety of experiences. This has led them to be in the career that they are in now! Everyone has something exciting to share with our students. I invite you to participate as a volunteer in our Career Speaker Series with Teens in Action. We have slots in October and November, which will be informal conversations about your career in a small group setting. For more information, see the following sign-up or message me for more details. Hope to see you at some of our afterschool sites! #volunteer #NorthTexas #TeensinAction #Youth #professionaldevelopment

🌟 Embracing the Power of Community 🤝 At Vision Safety Solutions Inc., we believe that community is the heart and soul of everything we do. 💖 🏘️ What is Community? Community is more than just a group of people living in the same area; it's a network of individuals bound by shared values, goals, and support for one another. It's a place where ideas flourish, friendships blossom, and lives are enriched. 🤗 Why is Community Important? Communities provide: 1️⃣ Support and Empowerment: A community is your safety net during challenging times and your cheerleaders during moments of triumph. 2️⃣ Learning and Growth: Through shared experiences, you gain knowledge and develop new skills. 3️⃣ Belonging and Inclusivity: Community fosters a sense of belonging, where everyone's voice is heard and valued. 4️⃣ Positive Change: Together, we can create positive change that ripples beyond our community's borders. #community #communityfirst #communityovercompetition #communitymanagement #CommunityService #CommunityBuilding #communitylove
