Certainly! Here's a story that highlights the concept of HONOR in Leadership: Once upon a time, in a small village, there was a young farmer named Ethan. Ethan was known for his honesty, integrity, and strong sense of honor. One day, a severe drought hit the village, causing crops to wither and water sources to dry up. The villagers were struggling to find enough food to sustain themselves and their families. Amidst this difficult situation, the village council decided to distribute the limited food supplies equally among the villagers. However, as time went on, it became clear that some people were taking more than their fair share, leaving others hungry and desperate. Ethan, driven by his sense of honor, decided to take action. He volunteered to oversee the distribution of food, ensuring that everyone received their fair share. He set up a system where each family would receive a specific portion of food based on their needs and the number of members in their household. Despite facing immense pressure and criticism from those who were benefiting from the unfair distribution, Ethan remained steadfast in his commitment to honor and fairness. He refused to let personal interests or convenience sway his decision-making. As time went on, the villagers noticed the positive impact of Ethan's fair distribution system. The sense of unity and trust began to grow within the community. People started to respect and appreciate Ethan's unwavering dedication to honor and fairness. Eventually, the drought subsided, and the village recovered. But Ethan's honorable actions during the inconvenience had a lasting impact. He had not only ensured fair distribution of resources but also instilled a sense of integrity and trust among the villagers. Ethan's story serves as a reminder that honor can guide us to make difficult decisions, even in the face of inconvenience or adversity. It shows that upholding principles and acting with integrity can have a profound and positive impact on individuals and communities alike. #honor #resources #fairness #leadership #resources #principles #community

Appalachian Foodways Practitioner | Holistic Health Practitioner | Birthworker | Community Organizer | Women’s Wellness Advocate | Food & Land Justice Advocate.
A year from today, we were asked: “What will it take to create a more accessible, equitable, and complete food security system?” • We laid a foundation to this question and part of our solution is- solving food apartheid by recreating our own food system in East Knoxville through a Black led movement. • • We had the pleasure of presenting our year one shareout of our impact report. We are honored to be a part of the food and land justice work in our city. It excites us to think about the future of Black Knoxville's Food Landscape in East Knoxville. We wouldn't be able to do this work without United Way Greater Knoxville, Canvas Can Do Miracles, 3 Cubed plus a plethora of other partners who fund and support our movement. • • To think we are just at Y1 & have covered so much ground is astonishing. Again, we couldn’t do this without a receptive community, committed volunteers, aligned collaborators & partners. Last year, we had an ambition goal of establishing 100 gardens in the city by year 1. Well, we will have a count of 167+ gardens on the ground by December 2023. It’s an honor to lead this collective as it takes courage, grit, and fortitude to do this work while sowing seeds of resistance and wisdom. 📍: Rendering of Detroit Food Commons | Credit: Brinker Group The Detroit People's Food Co-op an African American-led initiative, is a community-owned grocery cooperative slated to launch in Detroit's North End in February 2024. With a mission to tackle food insecurity, the co-op emphasizes nutritional awareness, sustainability, backing local enterprises, and channeling resources back into the community. The idea for the co-op originated from discussions within the DETROIT BLACK COMMUNITY FOOD SECURITY NETWORK INC, which was established in 2006 to support existing co-ops and create a new one. It was born from the community's desire to combat the economic practices in Black communities within the food industry. There is only one Black-owned grocery store in Detroit, the Linwood Fresh Market, which is a recent addition. The co-op aims to challenge this disparity and prevent the profits from leaving the community by promoting community ownership and reinvesting in the area. In 2023, County Executive Steuart Pittman created the Anne Arundel County Food Council by executive order. Hosted by the Partnership for Children, Youth and Families and facilitated by Due East, the Food Council came together to address the root causes of food insecurity. Due East played a pivotal role in bringing together a diverse group of local food providers, producers, and distributors, fostering a collective vision and shared plan to ensure everyone has equitable access to affordable, healthy food. 🍎 This strategic plan combines safety-net programs such as food banks and pantries with long-term solutions that aim to strengthen local farming and community gardens. 🧑🌾 The ultimate goal is to ensure that individuals earn enough income to afford healthy food for themselves and their families. #socialimpactleaders #sustainablecommunities #togetherwethrive

In a time when the cost of food is soaring and community support is needed more than ever, our mission is crystal clear: uplift regional farmers while ensuring food access for every single New Yorker. How do we do it? By standing strong on two core principles - fair pricing and community empowerment. We firmly believe in paying our dedicated farmers a fair price for their hard work. This not only shows our appreciation for their tireless efforts but also bolsters the resilience of our local food systems. We recognize the challenges posed by escalating food costs, especially in these trying times. Hence, our commitment remains steadfast in making quality, farm-fresh produce affordable and reachable for all New Yorkers. Whether you're a restaurant owner, a community organization, or an individual looking to make a difference, anyone can order from GrowNYC’s Food Hub. With a minimum order of just $250, you can play a vital role in supporting local farmers and strengthening our shared mission. Visit https://bit.ly/3qWLEXS to get started.

If you even loosely follow the news in Minnesota, you probably already know that we once again broke the record for most food shelf visits ever, at 7.5 million in 2023. You may also know that Second Harvest Heartland is ponying up to do something about it, starting with our new #MakeHungerHistory initiative, which aims to cut hunger in half by 2030. I wrote a little something about it and hope you'll check it out: https://lnkd.in/gP8e3tTC Kudos to Allison O'Toole for setting the vision, the Board of Directors for embracing it, and all my incredible colleagues who are already working to make this a reality. It'll take a whole-of-community effort to get it done, and it won't happen without additional investments and policies that target hunger at its roots. Which is why hunger is, ultimately, a policy choice. Let's choose to end it - starting by cutting it in half over the next six years. #mnleg #hunger #foodsecurity #foodinsecurity #moonshot #Minnesota #advocacy

Well done to Eat Wild and to Tops Day Nursery. Well researched and written piece in the Times here pointing out the cost to drivers and to agriculture of deer overpopulation in the UK. Only when the militant, anti hunting vegetarians and vegans realise the threat to UK agriculture and the implications of relying solely on imported foods will media such as the BBC and the other left wing media realise how important game hunting and personal choice is. As it is we have a multitude of famers having issues with poorly thought out laws and guidelines, DEFRA allows pollution of the waterways and their IT system is causing issues with subsidy payments to farmers. These same farmers have to cope with supermarkets failing to pay them a fair rate for their produce leaving the UK with millions of acres of grassland and farmland lost to carbon credit woodland and development since 2010 (see farming UK July 2022 or the Independent July 2020). Farmland enough to produce 250,000 tonnes of homegrown food per annum gone forever. Perhaps it is now time to support game shooting and famers alike before the UK becomes a concrete metropolis incapable of sustaining any meaningful home grown produce? Well BBC News The Labour Party will you support UK sustainably and sensible game hunting?
🗞️BREAKING NEWS 🗞️ We are unbelievably proud to have secured this full-page piece in The Times today, which highlights Eat Wild’s work to put wild meat on the menu at a collective of schools, Tops Day Nurseries. This is a huge, multi-faceted win for the countryside community and we are honoured to be successfully spreading the word about the multiple benefits of eating wild meat. https://lnkd.in/emuYa5QW Claire Zambuni Emma Sandham Iona Mackay

Today on World Hunger Day, we are reflecting on the 1.6 million North Carolina households who don’t have enough to eat. Farmer Foodshare exists to change that number. We work to ensure everyone in North Carolina has healthy, delicious food to eat, not just today, but every day. In the heart of such a bountiful growing region and robust local food system, it is inexcusable that our neighbors lack access to healthy meals. We envision a Triangle-area community where fresh, local food is available to all, regardless of income level. You can help! Your support today means we can continue expanding our hunger relief and food justice programs all year. And since we always source from local farmers, you’re also contributing to the resiliency of our Triangle-area foodshed – a win-win for food security! Make a gift now through the link below: https://lnkd.in/eFHVnH9Q We look forward to a time when our society and economy is more just and equitable, but until then, we will continue making sure eaters of all income levels can share in the local harvest. . . . . . . . . #farmerfoodshare #farmerfoodshareprograms #hungerrelief #foodshed #foodaccess #foodsecurity #northcarolina #foodhub #sproutnewgrowth #farmerfoodsharecommunity
