It has been a pleasure working with Alessandro Coltro on Gents Cafe for the past months. It is rare to find projects driven by a deep drive to create something valuable that people Love. In Gents Cafe, Alessandro, and the team, work every day to better understand readers' preferences and personal tastes, while never losing the Purpose and identity of the project. From my side here are a couple of insights I've understood on how to grow a #newsletter in the last months: - Engagement is key: Doesn't make sense to have a low #CPL if the bounce rate of the newsletter goes up and the open rate and engagement KPIs go down. Always compare your marketing KPIs with #productKPIs. We don't want a lot of subscribers. We want engaged subscribers first. - Test, test, test: All great ideas and hypotheses. Some simple and valuable lessons were reinforced to me on Halloween night. Our church recently moved to a new location. We did a Trunk or Treat in our community to show our new neighbors that we were there and that wanted to contribute. Free food, candy, games, and good people who love others. It was a hit. Over 500 people from our community joined us. I had signed up to grill burgers and hot dogs but when I arrived, I was told it was all covered and there was nothing for me to do. When I took a seat near a self-serve hot chocolate and coffee table waiting to see if I could find something to help with, a kid came up to make a hot chocolate. The water was incredibly hot, and he couldn’t quite reach it. In short, it was a burn waiting to happen. I asked if I could help him and I made his hot chocolate and handed it to him. When I looked up, there were six more kids in line with big smiles of expectation. THAT was something I could do! The rest of the evening I made hot chocolates for kids and adults alike, talked to folks, told them how glad we were they came out to be with us, and commented on how awesome all the costumes looked. The reinforced lessons were simple but powerful: 🔥 There is always a way to be of service to others. 🔥 Simple acts of service can be just as meaningful and satisfying to you and others as the bigger ones. 🔥 If one door closes, stick around. No in one area doesn’t mean no in all of them. Bonus: People LOVE hot chocolate! #service #community #lifelessons

We made it through Halloween! Now, begins one of the best times to begin neutralizing sweets and treats in our homes. While our kids already have candy top of mind, take the opportunity to role model an intuitive eating approach through regular opportunities to enjoy candy, including having it as dessert with dinner. By reinforcing food freedom over arbitrary food rules, we learn to better trust our children’s ability to self-regulate and in doing so, encourage them to do the same.
