Black History is World History
#HouseHistory: Alumnus Leroy Howard Milton Haynes ’35 opened the first American restaurant in Paris - and in Europe - named “Gabby and Hayes” in 1949. Haynes was an All-American football player for Morehouse and a member of the Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi. After graduating, Haynes served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1949 and soon after opened Gabby & Haynes. Haynes became a cultural architect, shaping a hub of Black excellence with his second venture, Chez Haynes, in 1969. This establishment not only served delectable African American soul food but also became the epicenter of Black culture in Paris. The popular restaurant was frequented by the likes of Richard Wright, James Baldwin, and Cab Calloway to name a few. After passing in 1986, Haynes’ restaurant operated until 2009. #BlackHistoryMonth #MorehouseHistory #MorehouseisEverywhere #WellTraveled

There are some good recommendations in this article. It is interesting that this receives so much attention, while the topic of racism does not. After the pushback to anti-extremism efforts, it may be that DOD is afraid to directly address it. Black Officer White Navy is full of examples of why that's a mistake. There are several case-study worthy examples that could be incorporated as leadership lessons on how to and how not to address issues of racism. Traditions sometimes need to die. Happens all the time. https://lnkd.in/ewzaErEC

It's inspiring to see women, especially women of color, being trusted with significant responsibilities that impact the lives of many. We must celebrate our progress and continue pushing for more diversity and inclusivity in leadership positions. The U.S. military, one of the world's largest employers, has put its trust in the hands of a woman, particularly a woman of color. If they can do it, so can the rest of the world. Let's work towards a future where diversity and inclusion are the norm in all leadership positions. #diversityandinclusioninitiatives #diversityandinclusion #leadership #womeninleadership #womenofcolor #itistimetoinnovate

About 30 pages away from finishing the legendary Michael Bennett's 2018 publication. I have no business with the NFL, or sports for that matter, but this book is an excellent primer. Not only are we made privy to the inside machinery of locker room antics, but also, we come to understand how majority Black sports are inevitably exploited by team "owners"... and so much more, of course. See where he is now, after a memorable career with the Seahawks! https://lnkd.in/eUKhzTAi
