In Kubernetes, a hostPath volume is a type of volume that mounts a file or directory from the host node's filesystem into your Pod. This means that the files or directories on the host machine can be directly accessed by the containers running in the Pod.

Tested reading a file by using mmap() in Linux. Sadly it looks like Linux is wasteful in its implementation: The timings I get indicate that it is copying on mapping and https://lnkd.in/eNe75tnM indicates the page table data structure is too complicated for the kernel developers to manage efficiently. Until it is fixed, the user space workaround is to use read() instead to copy cached files a little at a time, overwriting the bytes from a previous read. This makes user space code more complicated and over all the system slower. I think managing memory and files should be the responsibility of the operating system. The user space code should only advice and request. I am thinking of how to test further. Maybe BSD is doing it differently?

kubernetes volume of hostPath- In Kubernetes, a hostPath volume is a way to mount a directory from the host node's filesystem into your Pod. This can be useful for accessing host files or for sharing files between containers running on the same node.
