This week on the Seattle Center Art Tour Presented by Alaska Airlines is “The China Mural.” With funding from Washington State, King County, and Seattle Arts Commissions, this series of ceramic wall hangings was made by students at Green Lake, Madrona, Montlake, and University Heights Alternative Elementary Schools, along with Seattle High School apprentices. Join Seattle Opera for a conversation featuring outgoing scholar-in-residence, Dr. Naomi André, and bass-baritone Kenneth Kellogg, who will assume the role of Artistic Ambassador for the 2024/25 season. The two will look back at Dr. André’s five years sharing her knowledge and love of opera in Seattle and look ahead to how opera can continue to welcome new audiences. As a singer, Kenneth Kellogg has been an audience favorite (Malcolm, X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, ‘24; Fafner, Das Rheingold, ‘23; The Father, Blue, ‘22; the Commendatore, Don Giovanni, ‘21) and looks forward in this new capacity to a future for opera as a community art form, where all can come together to experience and reflect on our shared humanity.
