What was your first job? 🐔 I remember mine so clearly. It was at Nando's UK & IRE and I was a part time waitress while I was at college. (Like most girls from my area I had the odd shift at the pub on the estate collecting glasses but I’m not sure how legal it was to be working at 14 so for we’ll leave them out for now 🤣) Anyway…back to my official first job… I absolutely LOVED it. I used to relish (see what I did there) going into the restaurant for my shifts. Things I enjoyed: 😍 Serving hungry people food 😍 Making people happy 😍 Learning about good customer service 😍 Working as part of a team The thing that sticks in my mind in particular though was the behaviour of one my first ever Managers. Now, if you’ve ever worked in hospitality then you know that working a ‘close’ or end of the night usually means the dreaded clean down. And if you’re doing it right, it’s messy, it’s difficult, and it can be a bit minging. So while the staff are doing the close, the Manager is generally doing the tills/admin-y bits in the office, that kind of jazz. However, something that always stuck with me is one particular Manager who without fail would help us with the clean down 🧼 I’ve got such a clear memory of him *literally* rolling his sleeves up, standing with a mop and bucket and cleaning the toilets so we could all get out of there quicker. It didn’t matter how dirty or unpleasant the job was, this Manager would be right there with us, in the thick of it, helping out so that we could all get home a bit quicker. It’s impossible to say how much of an impact that had on 16 year old Amy, watching the person in charge get stuck in for the good of his team. I’m curious…what was your very first job? ✨ Having job satisfaction is essential for a rewarding career. When we find happiness and meaning in our work, it not only helps us succeed professionally but also has a positive impact on our overall well-being. I feel incredibly fortunate to enjoy the challenges of my role on venue. I definatly never get bored because working on such a wide range of events means our team is having to constantly switch between catering options and setups, keeping us on our toes. However, this week our catering schedule is a little bit quieter, with only a 3 day event starting Friday, so I might finally have the chance to cross some items off my to-do list! #EventCatering #CulinaryExcellence #ChallengingRoles #PassionForFood #JobSatisfaction #CareerFulfillment

What job did you downgrade from and to? Here's my take on this... I recently made a career change that may seem like a "downgrade" to some, but has truly brought me more happiness and fulfillment. Previously, I worked in a managerial role at a startup hospitality company. While challenging and stimulating at times, the demands of the job also caused me a great deal of stress and anxiety. As a new company, I was required to take on so many different roles - from administrative tasks to accounting to housekeeping/cooking to graphic design and social media management and more...Working 12+ hour days and heard, felt and reminded I was not living up to expectations took a toll. My mental state was no longer healthy--- my career and personal relationship has been a battling issue from then on. Then I got married, which spiraled everything and led me to leave my previous job to be with my husband in a different country. After moving, I decided to pursue my passion for baking. I was excited to be hired as a pastry baker, which had been a dream job from the start. Of course, adjusting to the new role was difficult at first. I made mistakes and questioned whether I had made the right choice. But over time, I improved my skills and really grew to love the work. Now I find so much joy and satisfaction in my job as a baker. I work reasonable hours and no longer feel the constant stress of my previous position. At the end of each day, I can leave work behind and enjoy quality time with my husband. Another bonus is that I have less of my migraine attacks... While some may see this as a "downgrade", for me it has been an incredibly positive change. Doing work that I'm passionate about, with a healthy work-life balance, brings me true happiness and fulfillment. I have no regrets about following my dream to become a pastry baker. Sometimes you need to follow your heart and do what's best for you, even if it doesn't meet society's standards of going "up" the career ladder. I'm grateful I made the choice that was right for me.

I ❤️ my job I often think back to my first job as a hostess at Texas Roadhouse. Standing at the host stand, I learned invaluable lessons that I still carry with me today. Every job is valuable!!!! You are always learning things that you will take with you to your next job. Here are some of mine from Roadhouse. ➡ Creating a positive environment Whether at work or in personal interactions, Texas Roadhouse taught me the importance of being warm and welcoming to everyone who walked through the doors ➡ Starting conversations with strangers I grew my skills in networking, ensuring that even a brief 5-10 second interaction could brighten someone's day. Still something I am striving to work on and improve to this day. ➡ Upselling There were always fun promotions and competitions. Upselling is definitely a skill that has proven useful in various professional settings. One memory that stands out is the back of our work shirts, with the words, “I love my job.” While I didn’t love every aspect of the job—sweeping mounds of peanut shells at the end of the night wasn’t my favorite—the shirt served as a constant reminder to approach work with positivity. When you show your customers that you love your job, they are more likely to love your company too. And let’s not forget those irresistible Texas Roadhouse rolls! Indulging in them during shifts was a perk, although our waistlines might have a different opinion. #firstjob #customerservice #careerlessons #positivityinwork

The job you have isn't always the job of your dreams. I should know. But you can find immense satisfaction in your work, no matter what that work is. 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝟭: 𝗖𝗵𝗶-𝗖𝗵𝗶'𝘀 In high school I greeted guests at the now-defunct Chi-Chi's. I worked after soccer practice and on the weekends. I spent much of my shift eating tortilla chips. But I had the cleanest hostess stand anyone had ever seen and I greeted every guest with enthusiasm. I enjoyed visiting with the diners and took pride in a tidy workspace (excessive tortilla chip consumption not withstanding). 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝟮: 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗲'𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 & 𝗧𝗲𝗮 𝗖𝗼. In college I served countless cups of coffee at Barnie's. I spent much of my shift drinking cafe mochas. But I took pride winning over the grumpy pre-coffee customers. And when there wasn't a line, I cleaned that place like my life (er, job) depended on it. Barnie's is out of business, but I'm still going strong (excessive cafe mocha consumption not withstanding). 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆? When you give every single job your very best effort, you're gaining the skills that get you closer to that dream job. We all have to start somewhere in the quest to do something we love. With the right approach, we can find immense satisfaction along the way. Those jobs definitely didn't seem to be what dream jobs were made of at the time, but without them, I don't think I'd be where I am today: In a great job that supports the 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 of my dreams. Meet Tony! Tony is a Crew Leader for our site improvement division. He is what we like to call a “generational team member,” meaning his father Jose also worked with us for many years. How cool is that?! ILT Vignocchi chose him as our featured team member this month because he is one of the hardest working people you’ll ever meet, always ensuring he does a top notch job. So inspired this week by working for an industry that has so much opportunity and development potential! Looking through my LinkedIn feed this week, just about every other post has been "Started a New Position"! It is not people that are simply job-hopping but those growing and developing in their careers. While hospitality doesn't own the slogan "Be all you can be", it truly applies to our industry. Where else can you grown and learn so much, not just about work but about yourself? When I was trying to pick my college major as a typical 18-year-old not knowing what to do with their life, I chose Hospitality as a catch-all. From there, I was able to explore F&B, theme parks, hotels, front-of-house, back-of-house, operations, development, sales, marketing, etc. - the whole gamut until discovering my true passion in revenue management. That wouldn't have been possible without the opportunity that Hospitality allows, and I am so grateful for all the lessons I have learned along the way and the people that have led me to where I am (you know who you are!) since my not-so-fresh-faced teenage days. So once you have found your passion in Hospitality, the sky's the limit! Be all you can be this year! While there are always growing pains, take the time to appreciate all the learning you are getting along the way.
