The space sector is at an inflection point similar to what commercial air travel experienced after World War II and the internet saw in the 1990s. Is your company ready to capture the opportunity?

For over 5,000 years, ships have been used to discover new worlds and ports have been hubs of economic development and innovation. Space has always been a source of inspiration for the maritime industry and vice versa. Want to know what space and the maritime industry have in common? "The best we can accomplish, is 1.5°C with overshoot. The reason for this is that we have already loaded so much energy/heat into the Earth system, that even if we stopped all emissions today, we are already committed to warming exceeding 1.5°C"—Prof Johan Rockström What does this imply? "We know with 100 % certainty that this means rising frequency and strength of extreme events. So, the message to the world is this "buckle up" because we are inevitably facing 30-40 years ok of rising climate damages to societies across the world. It will even at best - get worse before it gets better." If you are not preparing for a world at this threshold you are inviting serious disruption. #CliamteCrisis #Adaptation
"The only 'currency' that counts today is 'speed and scale' to return the world within the safe operating space of #PlanetaryBoundaries", states PIK director Johan Rockström during the Berlin Aviation Summit. This is absolutely noteworthy and an urgent must-read. Amidst the urgency of the call, what encourages me is the ending: „Given the pace and scale of change required, the only way of succeeding is to ensure that the sustainable "offer" is more attractive in terms of prosperity and equity. Interestingly, data shows that this is possible. "Green" solutions are not only good for the planet, they are increasingly competitive (without subsidies), more technologically advanced and thus "modern" and attractive, and have well established benefits for health, security, and social stability. Making the path to a safe landing within Planetary Boundaries, I believe to be the most important narrative required to unleash the innovations, leadership and civil engagement required to tip the scales towards global sustainability.“ 🖖 We need a 1.5°C economy. It‘s possible. Trailblazers & future shapers, let’s pave the way! Give me a call if you want to turn the key with coool communications!

"Typically, airspace is anything above a property,”. “When you buy a property, you own the airspace all the way to heaven and, hypothetically, all the way down to hell. It's just the actual council that restricts you from putting anything over and above what is actually required.” #CBRE Article: https://lnkd.in/gpsdwdav #airspace #circulareconomy Association of Rooftop & Airspace Development

Join GSA next week at the Farnborough International Air Show! Panel session: International Spaceport Readiness to Support Point-to-Point Transportation Tuesday, July 23rd in the Space Zone Theatre– Hall 4 Moderator: Dr. George Nield - Chairman, Global Spaceport Alliance Panelists: - Hidetaka Aoki - Co-Founder and Director, Space Port Japan Association - Giovanni Di Antonio, FRAeS, Director - Technological Innovation, Italian Civil Aviation Authority - ENAC - Ente Nazionale per l'Aviazione Civile - Stephen Camporeale – Country Director for UK and Europe, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) - Alex Tai – Chairman, New Frontier Aerospace - Khaki Rodway – Spaceplane Sales and Operations Director, Dawn Aerospace 👉 https://lnkd.in/eUpHCSvc Given the rapid progress taking place in the commercial space sector, the next few years will likely bring the development of dozens of operational #spaceports all over the world. These spaceports will have the potential to serve as focal points and technology hubs for #aerospace innovation, as well as to support increased access to space. At the same time, we are seeing the development of a new class of aerospace vehicles that can travel between any two points on Earth within a couple of hours. Although many different design concepts have been proposed, the ability to conduct high-speed, long-distance #transportation through space, initially for cargo, but eventually for people, will be a major game-changer, both for national security, and for economic competitiveness. This session will explore current prospects for such operations and discuss how they could be integrated with the emerging international spaceport network. #P2P #Pointtopoint #spaceeconomy #Spaceindustry #spacetransportation

Why to go to New York from Moscow by plane is via Iceland? Shouldn't the flight be straight so as to save miles and fuel? No! Just to save miles and fuel, planes take advantage of, hear hear, the sphericity of the Earth. Planes to make intercontinental routes (like the one shown in the figure) follow so-called orthodromic routes. Orthodromy is the shortest line to join two points on a sphere. So airplanes apply geometry to their flight paths, and that explains the curiosity about routes.
