This week has brought immense challenges for all of us, and at Generational Noor, we extend our heartfelt condolences to all those who have suffered losses due to this tragedy. As the shelter-in-place is lifted and life starts to regain some semblance of normalcy, you might wonder, "What's next? How do we return to the way things were?" The truth is, we won't. Normalcy, as we once knew it, has been forever altered. Every one of us, directly or indirectly, has been touched by this event, and that feeling of "normal" has changed. It will take a long time for us to feel at ease in large gatherings, to send our children to school without a sense of impending fear. Some in our community have lost friends, neighbors, and family, and they will carry that sense of grief and emptiness every day. How do we find closure and heal from this tragedy? One thing that will always remain with the Lewiston community is our unbreakable sense of togetherness and connection, transcending differences in race and religion. When something like this affects one of us, it affects us all. At Generational Noor, we understand that as humans, we are naturally connected to one another, and this weekend has reinforced the importance of staying connected and looking out for one another, including our neighbors and especially the children who may be going through tough times. We are on a mission to ensure that every member of our community has the support they need. We're compiling a list of community resources in various languages, and we're thrilled to offer Zoom support groups open to everyone, young and old. With the school approaching, many young people may be grappling with unmet mental health needs. Rest assured, we are here, ready to lend a helping hand in any way we can, because your well-being is our priority. We invite you, the community, those who have been impacted and continue to be affected, to tell us what resources you need and how we can assist you. Please complete our survey or send us a text. Whether you're looking for a safe space, a mental health check-in, resources, a place to talk about what you're going through, or simply a stress-free environment to connect with the community while engaging in creative activities, let us know your needs, and we will make it happen.

Join in amplifying the voices of our youngest generation! From February 5th to 11th, 2024, it's Children's Mental Health Week in the UK, and we're on a mission to make sure every child and young person feels heard, understood, and supported. This week serves as a crucial reminder of prioritising children's mental well-being. Let's unite to break down stigma, promote understanding, and provide the resources and support needed to nurture resilient, happy, and healthy young minds. Whether you're a parent, educator, healthcare professional, or simply someone who cares deeply about the welfare of our future leaders, you can make a difference. Let's raise awareness, foster empathy, and create a culture where every child feels empowered to speak up about their mental health. We can build a brighter, more compassionate future for our children. Let's give them the voice they deserve. https://lnkd.in/eR4XUTur #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek #EmpowerOurYouth #EndStigma

When we talk about mental health, we often think about adults, but every day children and young people across the UK struggle with their mental health too 💚 This week is #childrensmentalhealthweek (5th-11th February) and the theme this year is ‘My Voice Matters'🧒💬 The 'My Voice Matters' campaign is all about empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves. "When we feel empowered, there’s a positive impact on our wellbeing. Children who feel that their voices are heard and can make a difference, have a greater sense of community and self-esteem." 🗣 Place2Be launched the first-ever Children's Mental Health Week in 2015 "to empower, equip and give a voice to every child across the UK." Their approach is to "intervene early to prevent life-long mental health issues" which they do by... ⭐ Providing early support - spotting mental health problems before they develop and helping children and young people cope with challenges throughout their lives, ⭐ Using an effective therapeutic approach - backed by research that combines several ways of working, ⭐ Offering a range of mental health support services - including advice and support for families and school staff, to build resilience and raise awareness of mental health across a whole school community. Place2Be was founded in 1994 by Dame Benny Refson DBE after being inspired by a Family Service Unit (FSU) project in Southwark called The Place to Be which had placed a counsellor in a primary school. "...I knew that we needed to reach children's problems sooner rather than later so their problems don't grow with them." Giving back to the community is an action we all should take, because at some point community has or will give to each of us! One way I give back is by being an active member on the board of directors for Broken-People: A mental health peer support group. Understanding that not everyone has the time or energy to volunteer, consider making a monitary contribution on Giving Tuesday for an organization committed to helping community. My vote is for Broken-People! https://lnkd.in/gaXvAfeV

Communities of color have less access to mental health resources but experience disproportionately higher rates of mental health and substance use disorders than other groups. Culturally-led programs are driven by those with a deep understanding of the experiences, traditions, and cultures to best support their needs. Founder @ The Flourishing Mother and Partner Coach @ Careering Into Motherhood | Accredited (EMCC) Coach, Certified Motherhood Studies Practitioner, Master's Degree Positive Psychology & Coaching Psychology
Are you concerned your child may be suffering from anxiety? The incidence of anxiety in young people IS on the rise* – hardly surprising given the many pressures and stresses our children are exposed to in these modern times. The best way we can support our children is to make sure we are informed and able to understand what anxiety looks and feels like for them. With this in mind, I’m delighted to announce a special two-part Facebook Live series with Jo Whitton. Jo is the founder of Invisible Thread Parent Coaching, through which she offers a transformative personalised coaching service – both online and in-person in Devon – focused on empowering parents to find their own path, root into their intuition, and deepen the invisible thread of connection with their children. This will be Jo’s third time joining us (in the first session she shared 5 easy and effective tips to stay calm when our children can’t, and in the second she shared tips to help us manage sibling rivalry – check out the replays in the Facebook group if you missed them!), and in this two-part series she will be sharing: Part One – Tue 5th March 11.30am • What child anxiety is • Where it comes from Part Two – Tue 19th March 11.30am • How we can start to solve the puzzle of child and teen anxiety I’m so grateful to Jo for sharing her wisdom and really hope you will join us live for these valuable and informative sessions – mark them in your diary now! You can register your attendance by hitting the link in bio/below: https://lnkd.in/eUy6-8Zj Belinda & Jo xx *Almost 1,000 teaching and support staff who responded to a survey from the children's mental health charity, Place2Be, and the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT), described seeing an increase in emotional and mental health issues among pupils since the pandemic, including anxiety (Source: BBC) #childanxiety #parentsupport #supportingmothers #empoweringmothers #empoweredparenting

Our Step Forward into Volunteering & Employment project is bringing the Library of Lived Experience to #Workington A what?! Here is one of the librarians to explain … "The #LivingLibrary has the potential to offer more personalised, empathic support to people living with #MentalHealth experiences. These sessions are an opportunity for our books to talk about their own stories to you, the reader. Unlike an article, social media post or case study hearing someone talk in person about their lived experience can allow people to see the impact, emotion and meaning of a story more clearly." Readers can benefit from learning about mental health in a non-clinical language. This could inspire hope in their mental health journeys, support them in taking their first step forward or allow the readers to support others. Our librarians will be in attendance to offer guidance and support to both books and readers.

Society's conflicting messages affect us all, including men. The book "#ManUp" provides fresh insights into men's experiences. I urge everyone to read it, discuss it, and help break the silence around male mental health. All proceeds fund vital resources for men's healing. Let's #ManUp together for change. #MentalHealthMatters #SuicidePrevention #BreakTheStigma

Be yourself, just not too much. Do your job well, just not too well. Be the life and soul of the party, just don't outshine anyone else. Speak up! Just make sure it's not controversial or anything that might upset someone. Grieve, but not for too long. Parent, but not the way you want to. Study hard, just don't get too smart. Love deeply, but don't cry when it ends. Don't tell lies, but say sorry when you don't mean it. Raise children so they are responsible, but do everything for them. Teach kids the consequences of their actions, but don't discipline them. Be politically correct, just keep up with the ever changing goal posts. Respect and obey your elders and don't share secrets, but speak up if you're being abused. How many conflicting messages do we believe only impact women, children, people of colour and the queer community negatively, But then fail to extend the same courtesy to men? As a mother of sons, I have seen their fragility, their confusion, and their strength. And the older my sons get, the more I see men through a different lens. Reading the first #ManUp book in the series, curated by Steve Whittle, founder and CEO of Tough To Talk - Male suicide and mental health charity, I saw men on a whole different level. Ladies, make sure you grab your copy of #ManUp, buy it for your friend, discuss it with them, hold coffee mornings about the stories within, Because I know this book will change the way you see men forever. If you love your sons, your husband, father or brother, then this is the must read book of the year for you. Link to pre-order is in the comments. *All proceeds of this book goes towards funding suicide awareness workshops, mental health first aid courses, tough talks and resources to help our men heal. Be part of the solution, not the problem. #toughtotalk #mensmentalhealthmatters #menmattertoo #suicideprevention #breakthestigma #stevewhittle #dawnbates #authoractivist
