This one had been hinted at before the general election and has now been confirmed: the new Government has moved three main digital functions - the Government Digital Service, Central Digital and Data Office and Incubator for AI - from the Cabinet Office to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. A personal view: although I can see the case for the move, I think they should have stayed. I'm not predicting any big failures, but feel they might have been better placed to align their work with the rest of government in their previous position. The Cabinet Office has oversight of the business of government, which is what the three bodies are about; the tech part is an enabler, not the prime function.
