As we celebrate #IndigenousHistoryMonth it is important to reflect on the values that guide us both individually and as a company. The story begins with the Grandfathers giving a young boy seven teachings to share with the Anishinaabe people: love, respect, bravery, truth, honesty, humility, and wisdom. These teachings are foundational to our interactions with clients and each other. Here’s how we incorporate these principles into our company culture and operations. As we step into the 2cd week of Women’s History Month, I would like to share the empowering Caroline A. Wanga . If you’re unfamiliar with Caroline, she is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ESSENCE, the No. 1 media, technology, and commerce company dedicated to Black women and communities- Essence Ventures (Essence Communications Inc. - Afropunk - BeautyCon - Essence Studios. Caroline started her career at Target in supply chain, serving in a variety of transformational leadership roles, including modernizing Supply Chain and Business Intelligence, Digital and Strategy capabilities. Prior to that, she held several non-profit roles. Get to know her, she’s critical in organizational development when it comes to Influence and Cultural Diversification. A little transparency here, although I come across strong and secure- I often struggle with showing up as my authentic self in the workplace. I give 110% to everything that I do and still sometimes feel that is not enough. I don’t know if it’s the over achiever established in younger years when I was in the Gifted Program in elementary school or being the oldest sibling or often just being the only black/brown woman in most of my work environments. Although I have a MBA, over 15yrs of impressive professional experience- I still at times have that feeling of inadequacy. Caroline led this talk when she was VP at Target. She begin by saying “ WHO you are is who YOU are and if you cannot be WHO you are where you are, then you change WHERE you are not WHO you are”. As her talk develops, she unpacks your natural talent and the strategy of coming into the workplace so that your authenticity can coexist and you in return can get what you need out of your career. Really worth the view, take what you need. Hope you know that YOU are enough (speaking to myself as well). The barriers are there for a reason but they don’t defy your purpose. Often we get in our way, learn to mitigate the risks for the reward. Move around to pursue your purpose and step fully into your light. More quotes that stuck with me by Caroline Wanga: “Go into the maximum of what you can do.” “Your agenda is greater than what is in front of you” “If you know what you are born to do, then the limits of what are available don’t become the limits of what are possible to you” #womenempoweringwomen #courageforchange #culturalawareness 💡**all opinions are my own** 💡

One fundamental human need is to experience a sense of belonging and connection with others. This connection not only promotes health and happiness but also acts as a shield against various physical and psychological ailments. Our personal work at TA is to seek wisdom from Indigenous traditions that can greatly enrich our understanding of community and love. During Indigenous History Month and today, on Indigenous People's Day, we continue to reflect on the Seven Sacred Teachings, a set of guiding principles deeply rooted in Indigenous cultures that offer valuable opportunities for personal reflection on fostering a sense of belonging and respect for all. One of these teachings is Love, which calls for us to care for one another, to be kind, and to show compassion. This learning is of focus as we enter the latter part of Pride Month. The LGBTQIA2S+ community has a personal connection to us at Thought Architects, as Margie highlighted in her blog last year. https://lnkd.in/gmbD9nmf (Yes - just for an update, the "kids" are still dating!). Consider that when you lean into love, you can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone around you. This means that you are recognizing and celebrating the unique contributions, histories, and identities of those who need to be recognized most, and learning along the way about yourself. By embracing the principle of Love from the Seven Sacred Teachings, we can work toward a world where everyone feels a deep sense of belonging and connection – more needed than ever in today’s world. Who will you meet with love? It all starts with you.

Talk to yourself about your successes: be sure that you are recognizing your own accomplishments, no matter how small they may be, because no one else can understand what it has taken to accomplish them. Coming from a complex trauma background which many of you may be aware of from previous media coverage. I was repeatedly told and I believed , “I wasn’t good enough”, “I would never achieve”, “I couldn’t possibly be normal Or live a normal life”, “I was too damaged” and the big one for me “no one would ever listen to or believe me”. So getting the award last week at the Mighty Women NI awards may seem like a small feat to many others or something that maybe I shouldn’t celebrate, but for me it’s massive. 10 years ago if someone had of asked me where I would be, I never would have dreamt in a million years that I would have survived any of it never mind be standing where I am today. Yes life has continued to throw me many challenges and I have fallen many times and I am sure I will continue too. I have worked with Many young people and spoken to adults who are often feeling some of the same. I hope by sharing my story, the setbacks and the accomplishments that other people may feel less alone and recognise that there can be hope even when it seems impossible. And remember to celebrate all those wins, even if this means getting up out of bed, having a shower, going for a walk or putting a new boundary in place. All of it matters. So keep fighting and keep getting up even when they say you can’t, because none of us know’s what the future holds. P.S Be proud of yourself and believe in yourself, because you have gotten this far! #complextraumarecovery #Sexualtrauma #findinghope #youarenotalone #keepfighting #keepgettingup #youhavethepower #mightywomenni
