Hi Scott, congratulations! You got me at, “Electrification is the most efficient method to melt glass through joule heating and to achieve significant emissions reductions.48 It has been estimated for melting three hundred tons per day of container glass, an electric melter is 85% thermal efficient versus an end-fired regenerative furnace.” Also very interesting batch chemistry stuff on the Dolomite. It’s hard to imagine eliminating boron! And crown burners now! Remember way back when you melted lighting glass and had to refine the stuff? Now “Lighting” doesn’t even make the top four categories in your paper, lol. I hope all my old friends are doing well, I’ve been out of glass for quite a while now but I always have fond memories of my years as a glass melter!

Thanks Scott for sharing this article with us. The article is very comprehensive and easy to read. But, how about to use only electricity in the melter ? Do you think is possible ? Thank you again
