4 weeks into the new role done (well, almost) ✅ Time flies when you’re working on exciting GMP projects - I think that’s how the saying goes isn’t it?! As always in a new role, I go back to basics: 1. Ask those “stupid” questions that no-one else wants to, you’ll thank yourself later. 2. Turn into a 5 year old child and constantly ask “why” - knowing what to do is important, understanding why you have to do it is better.

Last month, I completed training at Mindo Education. I learned much about Research and Development, Food labels, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control point), SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure), ISO 22000:2018, New Products, Products Development, Shelf Life, and Product Specification during my training. Research and Development is an activity process that develops new products or improves old products and can be accounted for until the end. Apart from that, Research and Development is divided into 3, namely Product, Regulatory, and Packaging. The three parts have different roles but have the same goal. Learning is a never-ending process. Therefore, I am enthusiastic about improving my skills and knowledge which will certainly be very valuable for my professional career in the future. Putting in place continuous training and competency assessments should be a routine in the company. 2. **Quality Assurance Program**: This is of importance to monitor compliance and ensuring the integrity of the data. 3. **Facilities**: The laboratory facilities must be organized to minimize contamination and optimize workflows. 4. **Equipment**: Regular calibration and maintenance schedules are of importance to ensure all equipment operates accurately and reliably. 5. **Test Systems**: Protocols must be enhanced for the care and handling of test systems, both physical and biological. 6. **Test and Reference Items**: it is important to Standardise and characterise all test documents and reference items, improving the reliability of the experiments. 7. **Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)**: SOPs should be meticulously reviewed, updated, and communicated to ensure consistency in all laboratory operations. 8. **Performance of the Study**: Each study must be conducted according to a meticulously crafted study plan, with any deviations thoroughly documented and justified. 9. **Reporting of Study Results**: Standard for reporting should emphasize on accuracy, completeness, and transparency, ensuring all findings are well-documented and interpretable. 10. **Storage and Retention of Records and Materials**: Protocols for proper storage and retention of records, raw data, and materials must be ensured for future accessibility and compliance with audits. This training has significantly improved our commitment to high standards and quality in our scientific research. Every piece of equipment (open and closed) considered for certification must be evaluated by one of the EHEDG Authorised Evaluation Officers (AEOs), at one of the EHEDG Authorised Testing Laboratories (ATLs). The labs are in active exchange with each other, but usually only online. Once a year, a visit to one of the facilities takes place to discuss the tests performance in depth, as well as to interpret their results. This year it was Germany's turn, with the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV research institute in Dresden and the Research Center Weihenstephan for Brewing and Food Quality in Freising/Munich.
