Happy Wednesday Everyone! This past weekend, I had the opportunity to discuss my nursing story with the hopes of making a lasting impact. I find, that every time I speak of the past, new emotions come up. Extremely raw and fresh emotions. At the start of my career, I did not want to process my grief. I felt I was weak for my sadness, and believed that I would be viewed lesser for having "mundane" emotions in a profession built on strength and selflessness. What I have now learned is that to feel is a gift. When you allow yourself to feel your difficult emotions, this is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. Selflessness does not mean ignoring the care for yourself, but including yourself in the same kindness and compassion you gift others. For the next month, leading into Nurses Week, I will be fundraising to support the Operation Happy Nurse community. A place and group of people that allow me to feel all my emotions without fear of retribution and judgement. Operation Happy Nurse provides a free, online community for nurses, offering a wide range of resources designed to promote wellness and foster a supportive network. From discussion boards to book clubs, nutritional support to educational blogs, guided meditations, and beyond, the OHN platform is a safe space for nurses to find solace, guidance, and camaraderie. All funds raised will go toward: - Continuing development on the OHN mobile application, making stress relief and community more accessible to the nursing profession. - Expanding free, in-person wellness events for healthcare workers. It is true that nurses carry a significant amount of political capital as the largest and most trusted profession in the United States. Unfortunately, targeted campaigns from opposing groups with more financial resources to navigate our political system often win out in Olympia. Today I attended the Senate Executive Committe at Legislative Hall, along with nurses and many other caregivers, asking our Senators to vote NO to HB350. This bill would significantly impact the quality care non-profit hospitals in DE provide by requiring them to cut $360M from their budgets. This would negatively start impacting our communities almost immediately. At the end of this session public speakers were to have 90 seconds to share their thoughts on this drastic and devastating bill. Their time was cut to one minute! In that valuable minute the message from several clinical leaders, nurses, physicians and others was clear (and unfortunately extremely consise): - We agree healthcare costs are high. - "Collaborate" with us on reducing costs while not putting hospitals in a position where they are forced to eliminate services to our communities. - Or in a position where hospitals must cut innovative technologies that not only provide state-of-the-art care to patients but also attract top talent providers and nurses. https://lnkd.in/gDrc9Bir https://lnkd.in/gM-7DGZK
