Australia’s first purpose-built LGBTIQ+ Community Centre, the Victorian Pride Centre aims to be a truly open community space in the heart of St. Kilda. The concept of a series of tubes as brought to life by GAA and BAU create a variety of space types throughout the building. These support co-working spaces, café, art gallery, radio station, health clinic, meeting space, and a theatrette at ground level. The rooftop has been conceived as an outdoor event space with great views over St. Kilda and Port Phillip Bay. Specialist lighting design adds to the attractive interior and provides efficient and comfortable lighting throughout the building. We enjoyed the variety of curved and rectilinear surfaces for illumination, affording us the opportunity to apply multiple solutions throughout. Digital lighting controls allow significant energy savings and the flexibility to achieve different lighting “looks” depending on the activity or event taking place. In the heart of the London borough of Greenwich, a decorative, latticed tower stands proud. It is skeletal, raw, and—in the words of the designer—’intentionally naked’. An homage to the scale, beauty, and simple ingenuity of timber construction, Studio Weave’s 33 is open to the elements and, indeed, the public, with the inner workings of the structure on show for all to see. The fact that the three-storey viewing pavilion is designed to resemble a typical Victorian terraced house is about more than just creating a relatable aesthetic. The tower showcases a building material that is becoming increasingly popular, particularly in the UK and Europe. It represents an industry shift in sentiment around timber use, one that is starting to encourage developers to, quite literally, think outside the box. From lower carbon emissions to faster construction schedules—not to mention creating spaces that bring a greater sense of nature and well-being to those who spend time in and around them—the benefits of looking beyond more commonly used materials such as steel and concrete have sparked a wave of ambitious, new developments. https://lnkd.in/dmU-274z

"You are valued, and you are welcome here." -Inclusive Architecture In addition to its accessibility features, the architecture of our public spaces can also convey a message and tell stories that transcend generations, revealing the values and worth of individuals within society. Our public spaces can be designed to honor the diverse voices and contributions of our past, present, and future. #InclusiveDesign #DesignForAll #DesignForIdentity #Accessibility #SpacesThatConnectUs #InclusiveArchitecture ID: Aerial view of Millennium Park’s Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago, with tall buildings in the background. Today, I want to talk about infidelity: Have you ever considered the impact of infidelity on the emotional landscape of our communities? How can we, as architects, contribute to building environments that foster trust and empathy, even in the face of betrayal? How can we ensure our designs nurture the emotional well-being of those who inhabit them? This is how: 1. Community Spaces: → Design parks, plazas, and recreational areas among residential developments. → Create community centers or clubhouses for gatherings. → Incorporate shared amenities like playgrounds or outdoor seating. 2. Safe Havens: → Design cozy nooks or reading corners within homes for self reflection. → Incorporate natural elements like indoor gardens or water features for a calming effect. → Ensure bedrooms and personal spaces are designed with privacy in mind. 3. Open Communication: → Use open floor plans and layouts that facilitate easy flow of conversation. → Incorporate multipurpose spaces to serve as spaces for communication. I've had the privilege of working on some of the world's tallest buildings in bustling city centers, but there's something uniquely rewarding about returning to the familiar and creating spaces that resonate with our childhood memories. At FlyingArchitecture studio, we recently had the opportunity to work on a project that embodies this sentiment – the Houses in the Grove in Bojnice. This project allowed us to step back from the towering skyscrapers and immerse ourselves in the tranquility of nature. It's a reminder that architecture is not just about pushing boundaries and reaching new heights, but also about creating harmony between the built environment and the natural world. 🌿 The Houses in the Grove project challenged us to design homes that seamlessly blend with their surroundings, drawing inspiration from the lush greenery and the nostalgic charm of Bojnice. We carefully considered every element, from the choice of materials to the placement of windows, to ensure that each home not only provides a comfortable living space but also serves as a testament to the beauty of its environment. As artists, we have a unique opportunity to shape the way people interact with their surroundings. Projects like the Houses in the Grove remind us of the importance of creating spaces that nurture our connection with nature and evoke a sense of belonging. It's in these moments, when we step away from the hustle and bustle of city life and embrace the simplicity of our roots, that we find true inspiration and fulfillment in our work. What is your favorite kind of project?🏙️ #FlyingArchitecture #Architecture #Studio #Nature

Urban Design Student | Major in Landscape at Manchester Metropolitan University | COA Registered Architect
Wide Open Spaces: The Secret Places in Architectural Races 🧐 Space is a crucial element in architecture. This wide-open landscape of Manchester made me reflect on how open spaces can evoke a sense of freedom and community! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Architectural design often focuses on the tangible—the walls, the roof, the materials. But the space within and around these structures is just as important, if not more so. Space shapes our experiences, influences our emotions, and dictates how we interact with our environment and each other. In Manchester, for example, the vast open areas provide a rest point from the urban hustle, offering a place for people to gather, relax, and breathe. These spaces foster a sense of community, encouraging social interactions and communal activities. They also provide a canvas for events, markets, and festivals, turning a simple area into a vibrant hub of activity. As architects and designers, we must remember that our work is not just about creating buildings but also about shaping the spaces around them. These spaces are where life happens, memories are made, and communities grow. So, the next time you're exploring a city or working on a project, pay attention to the spaces in between. They might just be the most important part of all. ✨ #Architecture #UrbanDesign #OpenSpaces #CommunityPlanning #ArchitecturalDesign #UrbanDevelopment #PublicSpaces #Manchester #ArchitectsOfLinkedIn #DesignMatters #WellBeingByDesign #BuildingCommunity #SpaceMatters

I had the privilege of contributing to this Modern Design Concept project, reforming Cardiff city industrial sites by repurposing these spaces, we revitalize and create dynamic, sustainable environments that benefit the community and the environment in numerous ways: Social Mix District Design: This project embodies a unique vision where the character of the place is defined by diverse housing nodes, combined with retail activities and inviting social open spaces. 1-Connectivity and Integration: The design seamlessly integrates with the existing road network, drawing life and activity to the site's central public squares. 2-Embracing Natural Features: This design introduces a fresh identity that emphasizes the natural surroundings and offers an abundance of tranquil resting areas. 3-Local Flora: It showcases plant species native to the area, enhancing the district's natural qualities and its connection to the site's environment. This project delves into the profound impact of residential height and density on living comfort, bringing half-enclosed and fully enclosed courtyard spaces to life. The roof platform not only serves as a dynamic activity space but also acts as a garden and observation perch, ushering in abundant sunlight to the courtyard adorned with lush greenery. #UrbanDesign #CommunityDevelopment #SustainableLiving #SocialMix #Innovation

PROJECTS OF PRESTIGE - with 'BASWA Acoustic AG' A very interesting solution for 80 Fenchurch Street Offices – for the 2-storey foyer! Can we re-collect how many times it must have happened, that a beautiful atrium or an entrance lobby is performing totally wrong for the acoustic quality? I am pretty sure that we have lost the count for that! Several marvelous structures simply lack the basic purpose of allowing people to talk and be heard clearly, and not being bothered with a very high reverb. You just cannot have a phone call there and are required to move out to finish your conversation. The architect and consultants for the project in reference here, opted for BASWA acoustic seamless design solutions, which precisely serve this purpose and contribute to better indoor environment. It’s a case in example, which demonstrates that if the end goal (purpose of the space) is well-defined, then the means to it are relatively easier to fetch. The BASWA Phon ceiling system was chosen for its smooth finish and high-performance acoustics. The result, was a comfortable space which was highly appreciated! https://lnkd.in/g5gQayVM #acousticsolutions #roomacoustics #sounddesign #soundproofing #BASWA #BASWAacoustic #officedesign #atriumdesign #ceilings #ceilingdesign #seamless #HealthyArchitecture #jointless #acousticdesign #acoustics

🏡 Discover The Cowshed: Elevating Heritage in Somerset! 🌿 The Cowshed, nestled in the heart of Somerset, stands as a testament to transformation and modern living. An extension and re-model of a previously converted cowshed, this project was designed in-house by Greenheart. 🏗️ A Journey of Design Excellence: This building and plot underwent a thorough design process, exploring various options, including demolition/new-build and multiple iterations of the final design. 🌟 Key Factors in the Chosen Scheme: The chosen scheme focused on maximising the use of the existing building. The goal was to elevate and improve the fabric to near Passivhaus levels. The design prioritised creating spacious and varied living spaces, offering breathtaking views across the fields to the south. ☀️ Client-Centric Priorities: Daylighting and indoor air quality took centre stage, addressing the client's concerns stemming from a lack of both in the existing structure. 🌿 A Sustainable Solution Unveiled: The Cowshed boasts an airtight, highly insulated building envelope, complemented by high-performance windows, MVHR, and a heat pump. This just-finished, economical build has proven to be a great success, marrying sustainability with modern comfort. 🏡 Preserving Heritage, Embracing Modernity: Greenheart's in-house design expertise has seamlessly merged heritage with modernity, breathing new life into a historical structure. #TheCowshed #GreenheartHomes #HeritageTransformation #SustainableLiving

#peopleschoiceawards https://lnkd.in/ggiFcjWq Studio Residence (Newcastle, OK) Dinnes Studio Photography by Westin Dinnes rethinking the suburban family home in the work from home era. The diagram of the home is based on a 9-square grid, a theme that is repeated at different scales throughout the design. Through the use of double height courtyards as nodes of reception and recreation, the design optimizes both public and private uses, preserves the natural characteristics of the site, and brings in an abundance of natural light and dense, planted moments. The studio and conference spaces are arranged around the entry courtyard that is designed to receive clients during working hours. The entertaining and private living spaces are organized around a north- facing courtyard with views to the adjacent farmland. Consideration of sectional quality was the key strategy in maximizing natural light, framing views, and responding to the topography. Wide roof overhangs protect vulnerable facades from summer sun, while double height windows and vaulted ceilings along the north / south axis afford the living areas diffused light throughout the day and reduce the need for artificial lights during the daytime. #designawards23 #architecture #architects #vote
