We are thrilled to share that our corporate headquarters in Glen Allen, VA has moved to 10900 Nuckols Road, marking a significant milestone in our growth! The new location, which will house our corporate services staff, allows our Richmond team and Earth and Environment group to utilize the former headquarters building at 9800 JEB Stuart Parkway. The addition of a new building allows our teams to improve collaboration and continue their exciting growth trajectory. We look forward to leveraging our newly expanded facilities into improved service for our clients and communities. #SchnabelEngineering #Growth Photo courtesy of Highwoods Properties

Thank you Gabrielle Gould for bringing this to light. Let's start by focusing on our existing conditions and quality as it pertains to historic preservation and new builds. First, the statement “cheaper is better” has been ingrained in our building patterns and it needs to stop. Design, architecture, planning, and engineering is an art. A key signature of the team or individual who created it. I say team because most times it takes a team to bring it to fruition. “Wait, isn’t the quick prefab supposed to be more efficient?” Not exactly. The old way was! This is why we still see ancient marvels that baffle current structural engineering understanding. Look at the Pyramids or Manchu Pichu! These amazing feets are still standing to this day. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn't built in a day.” It certainly was not. So how can we build more resilient buildings? Start by getting to know the history and partner with an archeologist. Building quality is worth every dollar, it creates a vibrant community for all income types.
These are a few of our favorite things! Demolition begins at 55/45 South Pleasant on Monday to build a stunning 5-story apartment building and parklet all the while preserving the integrity of the 120-year-old Hastings Building. While The Roberts Group is building for the future, The Roberts Family's 160+year history in Amherst remains grounded in The Roberts Group's downtown buildings, here are just a few of the historic downtown mixed-use buildings housing some of the BEST businesses in Amherst! Respecting and maintaining the historic beauty while creating new housing and experiential retail and commercial in downtowns is not only possible it is imperative to the vibrancy and success of America's downtowns, main streets, and centers. Hard work, Productivity, and Self-Reliance... The same values that built and sustained this great structure for the first 100 years will be the same that will allow it to endure the next 100 years. These are the values of the proposed state of Deseret, which would eventually become the State of Utah. These are also values that, not-so-coincidentally, are fundamental to our work and mission at Intermark Steel. As such, we are thrilled to participate in the preservation of one of the State’s most historical buildings, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (formerly called the Hotel Utah). As we prepare to assist Okland Construction with the building maintenance, including seismic upgrades, new stairs, and new finishes, we have taken some time to look into the history of this great building: The name Deseret means honeybee, a symbol often represented in the early architecture of Salt Lake City; a city that stands as a testament of our forefathers' cooperative and dedicated efforts. Today, it is the thriving economic and political center of the Intermountain west, but it was built up from a remote, unwanted, unproductive expanse of land adjacent to the Great Salt Lake. In 1909, a group of business and ecclesiastical leaders proposed to build a 10-story grand hotel at the heart of the city. The Hotel Utah was recognized as the finest hotel from Chicago to Los Angeles and hosted famous entertainers, industrialists, and even U.S. Presidents. The hotel was a symbol of industry and modernization during a time of Western expansion. In 1993, after the hotel was no longer considered a viable business, it was remodeled and repurposed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was renamed the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and has served the public with several restaurants, reception, banquet, and offices. We are so grateful for the opportunity to preserve this building and its history! Great to see vibrant activity in the Indy area; Esp at Castleton. The plan lays out recommendations for $169 million in added assessed value for the mall area; $96 million in the proposed Howland Greenway; and $150 million along the Nickel Plate. It estimates 336,000 square feet of repositioned or new retail space would be added, along with 458,000 square feet of office space, more than 600 hotel rooms, about 1,750 multifamily units and 34 acres of parking. The report suggests waterfront, boardwalk-type development along a stormwater pond south of 82nd Street, as well as a pedestrian arcade. Those features would be surrounded by such developments as covered parking, a hotel, and residential and retail space. It also imagines the former Sears store on the east side of Castleton Square Mall as an entertainment space, including a small stage and outdoor seating on a plaza. New offices, residential buildings and concealed parking structures are proposed for the far-eastern portion of the property, along with new internal streets. But all those changes would require buy-in from area developers and property owners, including local firms Simon Property Group, The Broadbent Co. and Sunbeam Development Corp., experts say.
This is the plan for Detroit suburb, Sterling Heights, hoping to convert struggling Lakeside Mall into a town center with 2,800 new housing units. Thought I’d share the following Indy examples for context! - Castleton Revitalization Plan (pg. 122+): https://lnkd.in/gzhgimqN - Circle Center Mall Redevelopment Announcement: https://lnkd.in/g3_pz7B2 - Lafayette Square Mall Redevelopment Announcement: https://lnkd.in/gXeufkBR (Originally posted by Hayden Clarkin on May 05, 2024 via @thetransitguy on Instagram) #mall #redevelopment #beforeandafter

Interesting data point. Is the CLT-RAL megaregion infilling as anticipated? Your thoughts on the potential development of a new megacity, like BOS-WASH or MIA-PBI?
Rowan County is now the top industrial developer in the Charlotte region with over 3.7M sq.ft. under construction, outpacing Gaston & Iredell. With competitive rates at just $5.61/sq.ft., it's an ideal choice for businesses. "The validation from Colliers, underscoring Rowan County's extensive under-construction square footage and competitive pricing, solidifies Rowan’s attractiveness for businesses considering relocation and expansion," said Rod Crider, president of the Rowan EDC. The #flighttoquality series returns! Take a look at Downtown Detroit's Capitol Park. This is now a beautiful public space with a great roster of retail and office tenants. Lo and behold, quality buildings attract quality tenants... Capitol Park up to about maybe eight years ago was a tough part of town, and that's being polite. I keep things pretty family friendly on these posts, so let's just say the atmosphere here was anything but family friendly. Think of NYC's Times Square in the 1970s. The sites, the sounds, and the smells got pretty rough in a big hurry. Today, we have upmarket apartments built by Broder Sachse Real Estate and a few others. Class A tenants like PEA Group, Rehmann, District by Design, and Gensler are in the neighborhood. Also, the food here is top notch: Dessert Oasis, Cannelle, Layla, La Lanterna, and Prime & Proper cover all the bases—from coffee to steaks. Walking through this area in 2012, it would be impossible to imagine what's been accomplished now. Capitol Park demonstrates in no uncertain terms that the flight to quality dynamic only works when there's quality places to go. Without the investments in the public infrastructure and some visionary developers taking some calculated risks on some of these great old buildings, none of these tenants would ever have even though to come here. #detroitteam & #brokerpals: Brendan Matt Steve Gabe Jared Wendy Beth Mark Eric Jeffrey Scott Bill Connor John Janet Randy Michael Lori Bill Renee Kurt Anthony Steven Mark Darryl Khalil Kelly Josh Nigel Jim Adam Nicole Christopher Mike Kim: not sure about you, but Capitol Park has become one of my favorite spots in Detroit. #savills #detroit #ccim #sior —
