Are you considering changing your clinical systems? It’s a daunting task, isn’t it? Recently, we co-hosted a webinar with colleagues from NHS BSOL and Primary Care Analytics that delved into the intricacies of changing clinical systems within the NHS. The fab team at BSOL shared their journey, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities that come with such a significant transition. Here are a few takeaways and tips you might find helpful. 1. Engage and Collaborate: Engaging with your team and understanding their needs is crucial. BSol used a "speed dating" approach with system suppliers to get a clear picture of what each could offer. This innovative method allowed them to evaluate capabilities effectively. 2. Adopt the MoSCoW Approach: Evaluate new systems by categorising features into Must-haves, Should-haves, Could-haves, and Will not-haves. This structured approach helps in making informed decisions. 3. Focus on Data and Cybersecurity: Multiple systems can lead to cybersecurity concerns and increased costs. Thorough software and hardware audits are essential to mitigate these risks. 4. Test Interoperability: BSol tested interoperability by allowing practices within the same PCN to use different systems. This approach helps ensure seamless data sharing and communication. 5. Emphasise Change Management: Business process analysis and ongoing adaptation are key. Continuous communication and addressing concerns promptly can smooth the transition. Some important lessons Learned: ➡️Start Audits Early: Comprehensive checks are vital. ➡️Maintain Open Communication: Transparency is crucial for addressing issues. ➡️Prepare for Unexpected Challenges: Flexibility and readiness to adapt are necessary. ➡️Assess Current System Limitations:Identify pain points and challenges ➡️Engage with Stakeholders: Participate in discussions and provide feedback. ➡️Evaluate New Systems: Use structured approaches to assess potential new systems. ➡️Plan for Data and Cybersecurity: Conduct thorough audits. ➡️Test Interoperability: Ensure seamless communication within your PCN. ➡️ Prioritise change Management and Training: ➡️Monitor and Adapt: Regularly review and adjust as needed. ➡️Leverage Support: Utilise available resources, expertise and networks. If you're considering a change then we are running another session on early June which is free to attend. Featuring guest speakers: Kate Thomas from NHS Birmingham and Solihull, Emile Axelrad CEO of Medicus Health, Amy Glees Head of Product and Technology at MedicalDirector, Chris Tomlinson regional manager at Redmoor Health and Conor Price Managing Director of Primary Care Analytics 🚀 Find out more and register here: https://ow.ly/giWa50RO8Hj #nhs #procurement #support

🎯 Exceptional IT, medical staff, and leadership have more in common than not. It's the details that differ; though the mission and goals are the same. Let's tackle one common source of tension and frustration in most healthcare organizations between IT and medicine, the implementation and enforcement of cybersecurity and IT regs. Significance of policies and procedures to medicine. ✅ Most physician executives will be well familiar with regulations such as EMTALA, CMS Conditions of Participation, and DNV/Joint Commission that require requisite policies and procedures to operate legitimately in medicine. They may or may not have familiarity with the details of the management and operations of commonly expected IT regulations; these include HIPAA and associated frameworks such as HITRUST, NIST CSF, and ISO. Great article and EXCERPT for anyone operationalizing IT into medicine "The Purpose of Policies and Procedures relative to patient safety from both clinical and IT perspectives: 🎯 Formalized, written policies and procedures fulfill a number of important purposes: 🎯 Facilitate adherence with recognized professional practices. 🎯 Promote compliance with regulations, statutes, and accreditation requirements (e.g. HIPAA, EMTALA, CMS Conditions of Participation, DNV/Joint Commission). 🎯 Reduce practice variation. 🎯 Standardize practices across multiple entities within a single health system. 🎯 Serve as a resource for staff, particularly new personnel. 🎯 Reduce reliance on memory, which, when overtaxed, has been shown to be a major source of human errors or oversights." Article https://lnkd.in/gsT465Cj Have you had success getting medical staff and physician leadership to buy into and support your cybersecurity program inclusive of policies and procedures? What practices do you recommend to optimize and accelerate this? Nice post and article Sherri Douville! If we also incorporate cultural aspects into this framework, here are a few other benefits of well developed policies and procedures: - Create a “community standard of practice” which helps to alleviate the burden/ responsibility of individuals to determine and practice to a standard - Help to incorporate the needs of the practitioners to ensure that the policies are viable and that related workflow changes and impact to personnel are taken into account - Codify the organization’s culture such that it can be implemented and sustained David Dibble Tom Dahlborg Lonnie Hirsch Grace Mei Yen Foo Jeffrey M.
