In the heart of the city lies my barber's shop, the kind of place that doesn’t scream for attention, yet its chair is rarely empty. Today, like so many times before, I find myself seated in its welcoming chair, with soft music setting the scene. My barber is gearing up for the grand performance. It's then that a memory hits me, a tweet I once stumbled upon about the unshakeable loyalty men feel towards their barbers and their football clubs. Honestly, it's spot-on. Why the loyalty, you might ask? Picture this: my barber, a master at his craft, ensuring every hair is perfect. He has this magical touch, making sure my haircut looks "sharp" from miles away. Seriously, how could I even think of betraying such craftsmanship? Take, for instance, this one time when I was out of town. My hair began to grow a bit wild, but the thought of letting any other hands touch it was out of the question. I just kept it neat, counting down the days until I could return to his chair. Today is one of those days. The tools are ready, the stage is set, and there he goes, weaving his magic, transforming me. By the time he's done, I’m all smiles, ear to ear, man. That feeling, knowing that when I get home, take a shower, and wash the powder lines off, I won't start seeing linear curves, that’s trust. This assurance, this trust in his skill, is what brings me back each time, that’s loyalty. For brands looking to build this kind of loyalty, it’s all about hitting that sweet spot, where skill meets consistency, and expectations aren’t just met; they’re exceeded. Just like my barber, who probably knows his way around my head with his eyes closed, your game has to be top-notch, leaving your mark on customers so that the thought of going elsewhere is unimaginable. As we all spend so much time selecting, preparing, merchandising, and finally presenting at XXX number of trade shows, it is essential to close with a bang, a boom, and a bing bang boom… Granted, very few of us have couture money, but we can always leverage a talented veteran or a local talent to leave everybody thinking, ‘WOW.’ Why not? P.S., it’s really time for trade shows to abandon booths and the aimless milling around. Instead, brands should be allocated stage time to present their brand story and the applicabke products.
