Watch our full 10 min film THE TEEN BRAIN! Just released! Executive produced by Goldie Hawn and her MindUP programs for schools, and directed by my long-time collaborator Tiffany Shlain, The Teen Brain is a new 10-minute short film that explores what's happening in the teenage brain, illuminating that teenagers are emotionally brilliant super-learners with brains that are undergoing rapid and significant remodeling and development. Based on the latest research on adolescence, and showcasing both teens and doctors and psychologists, The Teen Brain offers tools to stay balanced and navigate the powerful adolescent years. https://lnkd.in/dts_Sfmt

An amazing Ted Talk from 7 year old Molly Wright, which shows the value of allowing children to be just children and the importance of adults being there for them in their first few years, up to the age of 5 (follow the link). The importance of this simple approach helps to develop the correct neurological development in our youngest children. Talk to them! https://lnkd.in/gJ3tibqk

Mirror neurons make us human. Empathy. What an amazing human condition. In my work with parents of challenging and complex children, empathy (compassion) is the treatment. It is inside the compassionate, connected, co-regulated parent-child relationship, where attachment and security grow. Having the ability to empathize with children is a superpower parents can harness to help their child's nervous system heal and develop. When you parent through the lens of compassion and safety, your child's mirror neurons get activated. In that activation, their brain begins to create neural connections that mimic the empathy expressed by the parent. Slowly, over time, your child is creating their own, internal capacity for self-compassion and regulation. In this way, self-regulation is internalized co-regulation. (Robyn Gobbel) If your desire is to help grow and strengthen your child's neural nets for self-regulation through the expression of your empathy, then give me a call. What do you do when a child has a tantrum or meltdown? Many of us were taught that we should ignore the child. But recent research into the connection between the brain, the body, and behavior tells us that there is a better way: Give the child what they need. Giving a child what they NEED does not mean giving them what they want in that situation! According to Mona Delahooke, “Behaviors offer valuable clues…[as to] what the child needs from us.” What the behavior is telling us is that the child needs our help handling the situation. We don’t necessarily have to change the situation they face, like excusing them from cleaning up, but we do need to co-regulate. Connect with the child, acknowledge their difficulty and their feelings, and let them know you are there to help. Exploring Sensory Meltdowns! Ever wondered what occurs when our senses shift into overdrive? Imagine a child with sensory processing challenges, their brain misunderstanding signals and fixating on an exclusive experience. Our senses act as windows to the world, but for some, they can become slightly distorted. Sensory meltdowns are an outcome of this sensory imbalance. Together, let's cultivate understanding, empathy, and support for children navigating sensory meltdowns. #sensorymeltdowns #empathyinaction #supportingchildren #sensoryprocessingchallenges #sensoryimbalance #understanding #empathy #support #lexicon #lexiconkids #lexiconschools #lexicongroupofinstitutes #lexiconrainbowtherapyandchilddevelopmentcentre
