I think that job site video holds an opportunity to improve safety. I talk about it a little bit in one of my LinkedIn Learning courses in terms of using it on large job sites to help managers see ongoing activity that might their attention, instead of randomly walking the site. But as this article by Construction Dive and Skanska mentions, I think the future opportunity lies in using more cameras along with AI to review the videos to flag both unsafe conditions and unsafe behaviors (or near misses). If software can collect and analyze that unsafe behavior/near miss data and map it as hotspots on the digital construction drawings, we would begin to get some actual leading indicator data that's allows us to correct situations before an incident occurs. #constructionishard #alwaysbelearning

It's a sad fact in Architectural Ironmongery that I've been in my role as a qualified scheduler for a decade and a bit, and though I've been sent many ironmongery specifications and schedules in that time I could count the number of them that were prepared by somebody who had achieved GAI accreditation on one hand. And I wouldn't need to use my thumb. Or all of my fingers. In fact there have been TWO occasions where I knew the original scheduler very well, because what I was looking at was my own specification, most of my schedule, and my own part codes. It was all wrong though because it had been copy-pasted from a different project... It's much easier and faster to do these things accurately from scratch than it is to pick apart and correct what we've been sent, but are we really STILL in a place where people (and people who should know better at that) are just having a crack at it themselves? Where people are employed to schedule when they haven't qualified to do so? I can't be the only one who finds it maddening, especially when you're being beaten on margins by folks who can save a bit of money by avoiding the costs of proper training. Makes you wonder how many more ticking timebomb buildings there are out there...

Losing a job based solely on price is frustrating! The new company taking over the project suggests they'll complete a two-week job in just three days, and their plan involves rigging ropes off the roof chiller, which clearly violates health and safety standards (you couldn't make this up!). Additionally, they failed to consider the working hours of the site. Understandably, the site rejected their proposal and requested a more appropriate method. How did they win the contract without outlining their approach beforehand? After all, their pricing should be based on the method they plan to use, right? Rigging off sky hooks next! 🤣 Mental as this prestigious estate previously had dangerous working at height instances and thats why we was brought in, and why after showing a clear lack of knowledge, awful spec and obviously miss pricing the works have they not been removed now, before things get hairy? Politics, undercutting and lack site knowledge. Monday morning rant over, crack on.

Hard hats should be with personnel upon exiting the truck at a work site.
