It offers valuable insights into the various paths and challenges that graduates face, which mirrors my journey as I navigate the post-college landscape and explore opportunities to grow within a corporate setting.

“The Muse once reported that three-quarters of those who quit for a new job said they felt surprise or regret, and nearly 50% said they would try to get their old job back.” What would you do if you didn’t like your new company? MY STORY: Years ago, I purposely left a fantastic company with limited HR growth potential and moved to a Fortune 200 manufacturing company to expand my experience. Saying it was a culture shock is an understatement. I remember feeling a pit in my stomach every morning when I stood at the bottom of the escalator in Grand Central before heading up to Park Avenue. What did I do? Quitting wasn’t an option because having a steady income was paramount. I sought advice from two connections, a consultant at Heidrick & Struggles and a senior executive at Macmillan Publishers, who helped me see the long-term benefits of sticking with it. I told myself that this job was like swallowing bad tasting medicine. It was unpleasant but ultimately good for me. With a “can do, must do” attitude, I persevered. It turned out well, because during the 18 months that I was there, I was promoted to a technology role, made lasting friendships, and got an offer for my dream job at another company. CONCLUSION: All situations are unique, and what worked out for me isn’t going to be the right choice for everyone.
